CHARLOTTE BOBCATS- Tenders a qualifying offer to Tyrus Thomas, power forward, for $6,200,000.00, making him a restricted free agent. Also allows the Bobcats to match any offers from existing NBA TEAMS.
Also, Tyson Chandler, center, decides not to opt out of his present contract, which pays $12,700,000.00 for the 2010-2011 season.
Boston Celtics- Doc Rivers, Head Coach, has decided to stay for his last year, and will earn $5,500,000.00, with no extension in place at this time.
Paul Pierce has opted out of his last year, which pays $21,000,000.00 to become a free agent, in hopes of resigning for a $90,000,000.00 4 year deal to stay with the Celtics. Look for the reunion of Doc and Pierce, and the Celtics to also start addressing their future with (KP43), “Kendrick Perkins”, because he enters his last year of the past deal he signed 4 years ago.
Memphis Grizzlies- Rudy Gay, 6ft 8in forward has received a qualifying offer from the Grizzlies, terms undisclosed. Look for the Grizzlies to sign this forward to a long term contract. He is a rising star in the NBA, and many teams are interested in his 19.7 points a game, and also his ability to protect the paint on the defensive end.
Phoenix Suns- Amare Stoudemire opts out of his $17,500,000.oo, and will command attention from all over the NBA. This power forward/center, has shown that he will be a great addition to any franchise in the league. Look for a sign and trade deal to come, which would enable Phoenix to receive some type of compensation for the departure of this great player, and also, for Stoudemire to receive the maximum payout of well over $120,000,000.00 in the next deal he receives, which will be in the 4-6 year range.
San Antonio- The Spurs swing-man, Richard Jefferson, opts out of his $15,000,000.00 salary for next year to sign a long term contract. It might be that Jefferson is looking for where Byron Scott might land, and hope for Scott to bring him in. Scott and Jefferson were very successful with the New York Nets, reaching the NBA Finals, so, look for that scenario to get some traction.
