Kings forward Marvin Bagley III doesn’t understand why fans got so upset when he liked a tweet saying “we gotta get @MB3FIVE outta Sac” and removed any mention of the Kings from his social media bios.
Through three seasons, Bagley has averaged very productive numbers, 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds per game. Bagley clearly believes he’s a better player than he’s shown with the Kings, which is true, and he recently liked a tweet suggesting that he deserves better than what Sacramento has to offer him, and that’s a fact, starting with a new COACH!!!!
Bagley addressed his latest social media controversy on an episode of the “Halfway Decent Pod,” saying he can do whatever he wants on his personal Twitter profile.
“First of all, it’s my Twitter, bro,” Bagley said. “It’s my Twitter. It has my name on it. I can like whatever I choose and please, and whatever I feel like liking.”
Bagley went on to explain he liked the tweet after watching Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young score 48 points in a playoff victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. Young, who came out of Oklahoma as the No. 5 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals in his third season.
Bagley, who came out of Duke as the No. 2 pick in 2018, hasn’t enjoyed the same kind of success in Sacramento, appearing in only 108 of a possible 226 games due to various injuries. Bagley, 22, was an All-Rookie First Team selection after averaging 14.9 points and 7.6 rebounds in 2018-19, but he was limited to 13 games in his second season and 43 games in his third season.
“That just came from frustration,” Bagley said, elaborating on his reasons for liking a tweet that disparaged his team. “I wouldn’t even say frustration, just that built-up fire. I think I did it after watching Trae go for 50 in the playoffs and they’re winning. As a competitor, that just makes me want to get to that and I need to be there. I want to be there bad. I think, doing that, it was just one of those things where the competitor came out in me, like I’ve got to be there. I’ve got to do whatever I’ve got to do to be in this position.
“… For me, personally, my personal goals and where I’m trying to get to in my career, I’ve got to make it happen. I’ve got to do everything I’ve got to do to make it happen. I think liking that tweet, that’s where that came from and it is what it is. People (are) going to take it and run with it. It is what it is. I did it. It’s my Twitter. I can like and do whatever I want on my account. I’m not hurting nobody. I’m not harming nobody, but you already know how the fans take stuff and want to run with something.”
This is not the first Twitter controversy involving Bagley and his family. It follows a similar pattern of social media behavior from family members, including his father, who took to Twitter in January urging the Kings to “PLEASE trade Marvin Bagley III ASAP!”
The Kings explored their options leading up to the trade deadline in March, but they were unable to find an equitable deal. One league source recently referred to Bagley as “unappreciative” of the opportunities the Kings have given him despite the injury setbacks and his struggle to grasp team concepts at both ends of the floor.

Marvin Bagley III (born March 14, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils and was a 2018 Consensus All-American. He was selected with the second overall pick by the Kings in the 2018 NBA draft. On May 21, he was selected to the 2018–19 NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The ACC announced its all-conference and individual award-winners Sunday as selected by a panel that included the 15 head coaches and 42 media members.
Virginia’s Tony Bennett was selected coach of the year after guiding the Cavaliers to a No. 1 ranking and the top seed in this week’s ACC tournament.
Bagley, who leads the league in scoring and rebounding, joined Duke’s Jahlil Okafor in 2015 as the only players in league history to win both awards in the same season. He was joined on the all-ACC team by Boston College’s Jerome Robinson, North Carolina’s Luke Maye and Joel Berry II and Virginia’s Kyle Guy.

While Zion Williamson has been generating the buzz this season by turning every one of his games into a YouTube highlight reel, fellow class of 2018 basketball recruit Marvin Bagley has continued to prove himself as the best high school junior in the country.
Bagley — a 6-foot-11 power forward from Arizona — has led Sierra Canyon (Calif.) to a 25-1 record and the No. 2 spot in the USA Today national rankings a year after he was forced to sit out his entire sophomore season after transferring from a prep school in Arizona. He’s averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Scout.com has had Bagley as the No. 1 player in the 2018 class since the recruiting service first started ranking that group, and national analyst Evan Daniels watched him play a few days ago at the Nike Extravaganza in California.
In one game at that event, Bagley scored 43 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, breaking Shabazz Muhammad’s previous scoring record for the showcase and leading Sierra Canyon to a 98-72 victory over Bishop Gorman (Nev.).
“It was as dominant of a performance as I’ve seen this season,” Daniels told the Herald-Leader. “Guys were moving out of his way when he was driving to the rim because they were fearful of getting dunked on. And it’s not just his athleticism. He can score on the block. He can score facing the rim. He can rebound. He protects the rim.
“He’s always been really good in terms of being able to score the ball in a number of ways. And he’s always had good size and athleticism and all of that. But I think his game is just starting to round out. He’s getting more confident with the moves he makes. It’s coming a little easier to him than it used to. … He’s just more polished.”
Bagley also remains the No. 1 junior in the 247Sports composite rankings — Williamson, a 6-7 forward from South Carolina, is No. 2 on that list and No. 2 in the Scout.com rankings — and Bagley has already narrowed his list of schools to Kentucky, Duke, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA and Oregon.
Although he’s down to six schools, it remains unclear whether there’s a favorite (or favorites) in his recruitment. Expect John Calipari and the UK coaching staff to be regulars at his games on the Nike circuit once that league starts in April.
“He’s been pretty clear in saying that he’s not really paying a lot of attention to the recruiting process right now,” Daniels said. “I couldn’t point to a school and say, ‘That’s where he’s going.’ I think it’s a little too early for that right now. But he obviously has narrowed things down some, and I think we’ll probably know a little more about his recruitment come summer.”
