CARMELO ANTHONY Officially Signs With Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets and Carmelo Anthony ended their weeks-long dance with each other. Today, the former All-Star forward signed his deal with the team, the Rockets announced Monday afternoon.

OFFICIAL: #Rockets GM Daryl Morey announced today that the team has signed free agent forward @carmeloanthony.
Free agent forward Carmelo Anthony signed his one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Houston Rockets on Monday,Anthony has traveled to Houston, and will finish his physical Monday before signing the contract, league sources said.
Anthony, 34, also received $25.4 million of his original 2018-19 salary.
Anthony met with GM Daryl Morey and coach Mike D’Antoni in Las Vegas during summer league. The Thunder granted permission to do, once the sides decided that a parting was imminent. Anthony had also met with the Miami Heat, and considered signing there.

Carmelo Kyam Anthony is an American professional basketball player for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He has been named an NBA All-Star ten times and an All-NBA Team member six times. He played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange, winning a national championship as a freshman in 2003 while being named the NCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
After one season at Syracuse, Anthony entered the 2003 NBA draft, where he was selected with the third overall pick by the Denver Nuggets. While playing for Denver, he led the Nuggets to the playoffs every year from 2004 to 2010, winning two division titles in that span. In 2009, Anthony led the Nuggets to their first Conference Finalsappearance since 1985. In 2011, he was traded from Denver to the New York Knicks just days prior to the NBA trade deadline. On January 24, 2014, against the Charlotte Bobcats, Anthony set the Madison Square Garden and Knicks’ single-game scoring record with a career-high 62 points. Anthony is also one of six players to record at least 24,000 points, 6,000 rebounds, 2,500 assists, 1,000 steals and 1,000 3-point field goals.
Anthony has been a member of the USA Olympic basketball team a record four times, winning a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and gold medals at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics. He is the United States Olympic men’s national basketball team all-time leading scorer, leader in rebounds and games played.
Anthony plays the small forward position though he is also capable of playing power forward. His scoring prowess is considered his best asset with his ability to take over any game on the offensive end; he shares the NBA record for second most points scored in one quarter with 33, and holds the New York Knicks single-game franchise scoring record with 62. On offense, Anthony is recognized for being a prolific scorer with a variety of crafty offensive moves. Listed at 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) and 235 pounds (107 kg), he has strength and quickness to be an immediate and consistent scoring threat in the post. He also likes creating space from his defenders which allows him to step into his jump shot or put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket and get to the free throw line. Anthony is often known for being one of the premier clutch performers in the NBA; during the 2005–06 season, Anthony made five game-winning shots in the last five seconds of the fourth quarter or overtime. Dave McMenamin, a staff writer for ESPN, wrote, “If you were going to choose one player to challenge Bryant for his title of Mr. Clutch, it would have to be Anthony.” Despite being a prolific scorer, he has been criticized for his defense and has never been named to the NBA All-Defensive Team.
Anthony is one of many NBA players who uses Idan Ravin as a personal coach and trainer. His relationship with Ravin started when he was 18 years old and preparing for the NBA draft after spending his one year at Syracuse University.
In Denver, Anthony was a spokesman for the Family Resource Center and helped organize a Christmas party, entitled “A Very Melo Christmas”, for less well-off children. In Baltimore, Anthony hosts an annual 3-on-3 tournament, known as “Melo’s H.O.O.D. (Holding Our Own Destiny) Movement 3 on 3 Challenge” and is helping fund the revitalization of a local community center for local youth. Anthony opened “The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center” in Baltimore on December 14, 2006. He contributed $1.5 million to the Living Classrooms Foundation, a non-profit organization that “provides innovative hands-on-education, job-training and community service programs for over 35,000 children, youth and young adults in the east Baltimore community.”
After the tsunami caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, Anthony donated $35,000 to relief efforts. He donated $1,000 per point scored against San Antonio and Houston on January 8 and 9, 2005, respectively. Anthony also committed $3 million toward the construction of a newly planned basketball practice facility at his alma mater, Syracuse University. According to the NBA’s official website, “Anthony’s gift represents one of the largest individual donations to Syracuse University Athletics and is also believed to be one of largest by a current professional athlete to the school they attended.” The practice facility will be called the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center. For charitable contributions totaling $4,282,000, Anthony was listed as number eight in “The Giving Back 30 List of Largest Charitable Donations by Celebrities in 2006”.
Anthony was a guest star in the “Lost and Found” episode of Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. He also appeared in the music video for Common‘s song “Be” from the album Be in 2005. Anthony is the only player to appear on the cover of all three EA Sports basketball franchises (NCAA March Madness, NBA Live and NBA Street). In January 2009, Colorado Sports Hall of Fame selected Anthony as its professional athlete of the year for 2008. He and wrestler Henry Cejudo, also a 2008gold medalist, were chosen to be the special award headliners for the induction banquet held on April 14, 2009. In spring 2012, Anthony guest starred in several episodes of the Showtime series Nurse Jackie as a professional baseball player going through drug rehab. He, along with Dwight Howard and Scottie Pippen, also appeared in the 2013 Chinese film Amazing, a joint venture between the NBA and Shanghai Film Group Corporation.
In 2003, Anthony signed his first shoe deal with Jordan brand and was paid $3.5 million per year for 6 years. In 2004, his first signature shoe, the Jordan Carmelo 1.5, was released. As of 2018, thirteen shoes have been released in the Melo line.
In 2014, Anthony made a brief cameo appearance in the eighth episode of the seventh and final season FX series Sons of Anarchy as a henchman to series antagonist Moses Cartwright. He also participated in a merchandising cooperation with Nickelodeon for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, where he has several guest appearances, namely in the 2016 action film, and as a comic character in the Amazing Adventures spin-off comics to the 2012 TV series.
In 2015, Anthony founded North American Soccer League expansion club Puerto Rico FC.Â

In June 2015, National Basketball Association (NBA) star Carmelo Anthony announced that he is bringing soccer back to Puerto Rico with a new North American Soccer League expansion franchise. The announcement took place in Bayamon, Puerto Rico; the future home base of Puerto Rico FC, scheduled to begin its first season at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in the 2016 fall season.
Puerto Rico FC made their home debut on July 2, 2016 at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium, drawing 1-1 to Indy Eleven, in front of a crowd of 6,474. Hector Ramosscored the team’s first ever league goal in the 74th minute. Their first victory came against Rayo OKC on July 23, 2016, winning 1–0. They won 4 of their last 7 games to move up from 12th place to 9th, and ended their Fall season with 24 points finishing with a 5-9-8 record.

On January 26, CONCACAF announced PRFC would host group D in the 2017 CFU Club Championship at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium starting March 14.[7]

Their first match in the tournament came against S.V. Transvaal of Suriname; whom they beat 1-0, thanks to Hector Ramos hitting the penalty shot in the 28th minute. The second match up came against Portmore United of Jamaica. They lost 1-0 late in the 88th minute. Shortly before the start of third match, Puerto Rico was eliminated from the tournament due to Portmore United finishing the group stage with three wins from games. PRFC played well defeating Scholars International SC of the Cayman Islands 4-0; with goals coming from debuted Mike Ramos, Sidney Rivera, Brian Bement, Cristiano Dias.
Puerto Rico finished the tournament 2-0-1.
Despite the financial recession in Puerto Rico, Anthony saw this opportunity as a form of community outreach, as well as a long-term investment in a club that could ultimately be profitable. Anthony is also a fan of English football club Arsenal.
