Michael Jordan designs Hamlin’s iRacing car, No. 23 in NBA, NASCAR
Michael Jordan made a big splash in September by teaming up with Denny Hamlin to buy a NASCAR Cup Series team that will feature Bubba Wallace as the driver. … With the release of a logo, the team name will certainly be 23XI Racing and Wallace will drive a car with Jordan’s famous No. 23 on it next season.Oct 22, 2020
On Friday morning, the 23XI Racing team unveiled the long-anticipated news of its manufacturer and technical partner, Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing.
But what stole the show was when driver Bubba Wallace and team co-owner Denny Hamlin unveiled their race car, bearing the number and colors made famous by Hamlin’s ownership partner, Michael Jordan.
The Chicago Bulls-esque red, white and black Toyota Camry featured Jordan’s No. 23 on the doors and the 23XI Racing team logo on the hood and quarter panels, hopefully to be replaced by sponsorship before the team makes its NASCAR Cup Series debut in less than four months at 2021 Daytona Speedweeks.
Lewis Hamilton gets Formula One record-extending 93rd career win at Imola, and Mercedes also seals record Constructors’ title after Lewis Hamilton wins the Emilia Romagna GP.
Runaway championship leader Lewis Hamilton overcame a sluggish start to win the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday for a record-extending 93rd Formula One victory.
Hamilton beat Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas by 5.7 seconds and rushed over to celebrate with the team’s engineers and mechanics after the team clinched a record-extending seventh straight constructors’ title.
“Seven times champs, something to tell my grandchildren,” said Hamilton, who also clinched an extra point for the fastest lap. “It is very overwhelming right now.”
Hamilton broke Schumacher’s record for wins when he clinched a 92nd victory last weekend.
He is now closing rapidly on matching Schumacher’s record seven F1 titles and leads Bottas by 85 points with four races and a maximum of 104 points left. Hamilton can clinch the title at the Turkish GP on Nov. 15.
“We wanted to bring back that Dodger pride,” Johnson said, and they did just that in winning the 2020 World Series.
Johnson lit up when he talked about coming to Dodger Stadium back in the day, to watch Dusty Baker and Ron Cey and Steve Garvey, in an era when the Dodgers ruled Los Angeles.
Walter was the money man among the partners, but Johnson was the public face, the one trusted by a generation of Los Angeles sports fans to restore the team to glory. He was not interested in propping up a disgraced owner, as it turned out, but he was more than interested in propping up the Dodgers.
Just look at the Dodgers now: In eight full seasons under Walter and Johnson, the team has won eight division championships, three National League championships, and that long-overdue World Series championship.
In this year in which so much has gone so wrong, the Lakers and Dodgers won championships 16 days apart. In 1980, when Johnson was a rookie, he replaced an injured Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the last game of the NBA Finals. Johnson never had played center, but he scored 42 points and the Lakers won.
The NFL World mourns death of Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys Legend Herb Adderley.
Adderley is one of only four players in pro football history to play on six world championship teams. However, in a memoir by Packer teammate Jerry Kramer, Adderley is quoted as saying, “I’m the only man with a Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl ring who doesn’t wear it. I’m a Green Bay Packer.”
Adderley started for the Packers from 1961–69, then played three seasons (1970–72) with the Dallas Cowboys. While with the Packers, he won rings for five NFL championships and wins in the first two Super Bowls. Adderley was a factor in the Super Bowl II win over the Oakland Raiders, intercepting a pass by Raiders quarterback Daryle Lamonica in the fourth quarter and returning it 60 yards for a touchdown to put the game away. It was the first Super Bowl touchdown scored on an intercepted pass.
In his 12 seasons, Adderley recorded 48 interceptions, which he returned for 1,046 yards and seven touchdowns, an average of 21.8 yards per return, also recovered 14 fumbles (returning them for 65 yards) and returned 120 kickoffs for 3,080 yards and two scores.
Adderley recorded 39 interceptions in nine seasons with the Packers, and held records for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a career.
THE TRUE MVP PLAYER OF THE ENTIRE PLAYOFF SERIES WAS RANDY GONZALEZ
Randy Arozarena González was named the ALCS MVP when the Rays topped the Astros, and almost brought the Tampa Bay Rays to a seventh game in the world series, which could have been a win and a championship first for the team.
In Game 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros, Arozarena hit a two-run home run, surpassing Evan Longoria for most home runs by a rookie in the postseason. Arozarena was named the MVP of the ALCS, becoming the first rookie position player to win the award. In the series, he hit .321 with four home runs and six RBIs.
In the World Series, Arozarena hit home runs in the third, fourth, and sixth games, breaking the all-time record for most home runs in a single postseason. In Game 3, he surpassed Derek Jeter for most hits by a rookie in the postseason. In Game 5, he recorded his 27th hit in the postseason, surpassing Pablo Sandoval for the most hits in a single postseason. Despite Arozarena’s record-setting performance, the Rays lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games.
