“As of right now, I feel like I am going to play, as of right now,” Woods said during a news conference Tuesday. “I’m going to play nine more holes [Wednesday]. My recovery has been good. I’ve been very excited about how I’ve recovered each and every day, and that’s been the challenge.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

He put emphasis the second time he said, \u201cas of right now,\u201d alluding to his earlier declaration that his status for the 86th Masters will be a game-time decision.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to play nine more holes tomorrow. My recovery has been good. I\u2019ve been very excited about how I\u2019ve recovered each and every day, and that\u2019s been the challenge,\u201d Woods said. \u201cHow am I going to get all the swelling out and recover for the next day?<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I don’t have any qualms about what I can do physically from a golf standpoint,” he said Tuesday at a news conference on the 25th anniversary of his historic victory at the 1997 Masters<\/a>, responding to a question about whether he can win the tournament.<\/strong><\/div>\n

“I’ve worked hard. My team has been unbelievable. I’ve been lucky to have had great surgeons and great PTs and physios that have worked on me virtually every day. \u201cI do,\u201d Woods answered when asked if he could win his sixth green jacket this week. \u201cI can hit it just fine. I don\u2019t have any qualms about what I can do physically from a golf standpoint. It\u2019s now walking is the hard part.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is normally not an easy walk to begin with. Now given the conditions that my leg is in, it gets even more difficult. You know, 72 holes is a long road, and it\u2019s going to be a tough challenge and a challenge that I\u2019m up for.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods (born December 30, 1975) is an American professional golfer<\/a>. He is tied for first in PGA Tour wins<\/a>, ranks second in men’s major championships<\/a>, and holds numerous golf records<\/a>.[4]<\/a><\/sup> Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time and one of the most famous athletes in modern history. He is an inductee of the World Golf Hall of Fame<\/a>.<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n

Following an outstanding junior, college, and amateur golf career, Woods turned professional in 1996 at the age of 20. By the end of April 1997, he won three PGA Tour<\/a> events in addition to his first major, the 1997 Masters<\/a>, which he won by 12 strokes in a record-breaking performance. He reached number one<\/a> in the world rankings<\/a> for the first time in June 1997, less than a year after turning pro. Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, Woods was the dominant force in golf. He was the top-ranked golfer in the world from August 1999 to September 2004 (264 consecutive weeks) and again from June 2005 to October 2010 (281 consecutive weeks). Woods has held numerous golf records. He has been the number one player in the world for the most consecutive weeks and for the greatest total number of weeks of any golfer in history. Woods has the record of leading the money list<\/a> in ten different seasons. Woods leads all active golfers in career major wins and career PGA Tour wins. Since turning professional in 1996, Tiger has built an unprecedented competitive career. His achievements on the course\u2013106 worldwide wins and 15 majors\u2013have mirrored his success off the course as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tiger is the son of Earl Woods, a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army, and his wife, Kultida, a native of Thailand. \u00a0He was nicknamed Tiger after a Vietnamese soldier and friend of his father, Vuong Dang Phong, to whom his father had also given that nickname.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He grew up in Cypress, California. He took an interest in golf at age 6 months, watching as his father hit golf balls into a net and imitating his swing. \u00a0He appeared on The Mike Douglas Show<\/i> at age 2, putting with Bob Hope. He shot 48 for nine holes at age 3 and was featured in Golf Digest<\/i> at age 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The week after winning his third U.S. Amateur title, Woods played his first tournament as a professional in the Greater Milwaukee Open. He won a total of 20 times from 2003-06, lead the TOUR\u2019s money list twice and captured four majors. Woods joined Nicklaus as the only player to win the Grand Slam twice. His emotional win the following year at the British Open at Royal Liverpool came two months after his father\u2019s death. He won the 2006 PGA Championship by five strokes at Medinah CC, the same venue where he won the event in 1999.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He began 2007 with his seventh consecutive PGA TOUR victory and ended the year with a total of seven official wins, including a second-consecutive PGA Championship.
