Look at most pound-for-pound lists, and right now, you will likely see Canelo Alvarez sitting on the top of the pile. And rightly so, Canelo has done so much, winning world titles at four weights, unifying the 168-pound division, consistently taking on the best fighters.<\/p>\n

But Floyd Mayweather, who once ruled supreme as the pound-for-pound best himself, says Terence Crawford is the man.<\/p>\n

Not only does \u201cMoney\u201d feel Crawford, a three-weight champ and the current welterweight #1 (it\u2019s up to Errol Spence to prove otherwise) is the best, he also wants to work with Crawford, \u201cbecause I know what I can do to take him to that next level.\u201d Speaking with Fight Hype, Mayweather had nothing but great things to say about the 38-0 Crawford.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe pound-for-pound fighter right now is Terence Crawford,\u201d Mayweather stated. \u201cEverything about life is about time and patience. And Crawford, I just truly believe that he doesn\u2019t have to be under my company for me to give him praise; I am not like that.<\/p>\n

If he is ever a free agent and he would like to go to any company, I would love to work with him. Because I know what I can do to take him to that next level as he has a lot of raw talent, and he is a hell of a fighter.<\/p>\n\"Floyd <\/picture>\n

There is a lot of great fighters out there, but he [Crawford] is a mutha*****, and one thing I like about him is he reminds me of a young Floyd Mayweather.<\/p>\n

He can fight his ass off, and that\u2019s what I like about him, but he is a lot older than I was when he started getting praise because I fought for a world title when my career began blossoming.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would be exciting to see Crawford work with Mayweather Promotions, to see what kind of big fights and big events Floyd and his team could organize for Crawford. As Crawford said after his big win over Shawn Porter, Bob Arum was \u201cunable to make the Errol Spence fight.\u201d Maybe TMT could do it? Crawford has moved on from Arum, and it will be interesting to see if \u201cBud\u201d takes Floyd up on his offer.<\/p>\n

Though he hasn\u2019t officially fought in roughly five years, Floyd Mayweather still pays close attention to the current group of fighters.<\/p>\n

During his prime, Mayweather found his name at the very top of virtually every pound for pound list. As the newly inducted Hall of Famer gazes upon every weight class and every current world champion, he believes he knows who has usurped him as the best fighter in the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe top fighter in boxing right now, is Terence Crawford,\u201d said Mayweather during an interview with FightHype.com.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old Omaha, Nebraska, native seemingly stamped his pound for pound status with the most significant victory of his career this past weekend. In front of a jam-packed crowd at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Crawford took on former two-time titlist Shawn Porter.<\/p>\n

With Crawford facing by far the most difficult opponent of his career, they fought on even terms throughout the first half of their contest. However, as their showdown began to unfold, Crawford took over down the stretch. In the tenth round, in particular, Crawford floored his man with a left uppercut within the first 15 seconds of the frame.<\/p>\n

Porter, to his credit, rose to his feet moments later but would reconvene with the canvas shortly after before their contest was officially waved off. Considering the nature in which Crawford scored his decisive victory, coupled with his overall achievements, when Mayweather takes a long strong look at the 34-year-old, it\u2019s as though he\u2019s looking into a mirror.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s raw talent, helluva fighter. He\u2019s a mother f*cker. He reminds me of a young Floyd Mayweather, he can fight his ass off.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Crawford, his victory over Porter not only represents the most significant of his career but also, the end of an era.<\/p>\n

For years now, Crawford has worked hand in hand with promotional company Top Rank and long-time promoter Bob Arum. However, with Crawford now becoming a promotional free agent following his stoppage win over Porter, the pound-for-pound star wasted no time in revealing his desire to move on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure my decision is made already,\u201d said Crawford following his victory this Saturday night. \u201cBob couldn\u2019t secure me the [Errol] Spence fight when I was with him, so how is going to secure me the Spence fight when I\u2019m not with him? I\u2019m moving forward with my career right now and I wish everybody the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Crawford revealed that he likely knows his next move, Mayweather, nevertheless, has thrown on his recruitment hat. With years spent at the top of the pound for pound list and with a career earning of approximately a billion dollars, more than any boxer in history, Mayweather is confident that under his Mayweather Promotions banner, Crawford could reach his true potential.<\/p>\n
