The crowd in the horseshoe-style venue\u2014one that was standing-room only with 58,892 people earlier in the afternoon\u2014had begun to dwindle on Alcorn&#8217;s side as Jackson State (10\u20131, 8\u20130) was knocking on the door of its final touchdown in the Soul Bowl.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When JSU and Alcorn State (6\u20135, 5\u20133) take the field, it&#8217;s a huge battle for bragging rights to see which team owns the state of Mississippi. It&#8217;s the battle of bands\u2014the &#8220;Sonic Boom of the South&#8221; and the &#8220;Sounds Of Dyn-O-mite&#8221;\u2014coupled with what is always a physical bout on the gridiron.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After the Boom put together a halftime show that honored Tigers head coach Deion Sanders in his first home game back since being released from the hospital,\u00a0the Tigers carried that celebratory momentum into the second half of 75th edition of the contest to earn a 24-10 victory, its\u00a0first win in the rivalry since 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After JSU added a 31-yard touchdown pass from Shedeur Sanders to Shane Hooks with 25 seconds to play in the third quarter, the Tigers began to embrace <em>the moment.\u00a0<\/em>The Tigers could smell the taste of what would be a victory and an undefeated conference record for the first time since 1995 under then-head coach James Carson.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Despite JSU starting the game slow offensively\u2014much like the program had done over the last four weeks\u2014the Tigers left no doubt that they were ready to seal the victory against the Braves.
