He finished his career ranking sixth in the FBS for career rushing yards (4,132) by a quarterback and became the third player in FBS history to record 50 career rushing and 50 career passing touchdowns in a career.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Playing only three seasons, Jackson is the only player in FBS history to rush for at least 1,500 yards and pass for at least 3,500 yards in a season (accomplished the feat in both 2016 &amp; 2017).<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Playing in only 38 career games at UofL, Jackson owns school records for total yards (13,175) and total yards per game (346.7 ypg &#8211; ACC record).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jackson was selected No. 32 in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens and has become one of the top quarterbacks in the league. In his fourth season, Jackson was named\u00a0the Associated Press and PFWA NFL MVP (2019) and PFWA Offensive Player of the Year (2019).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During his MVP season, Jackson threw for 3,127 yards and a league high 36 TDs (also a franchise record). Jackson becomes only the second quarterback in Louisville history to have his jersey retired. His 4,132 rushing yards rank No. 1 all-time while his passing yards rank fourth. Jackson ranks No. 5 in passing and No. 8 in rushing. Randall Cunningham (1990) is the only quarterback to finish a season in the top 10 in passing and rushing, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Early in Jackson\u2019s career, the criticism motivated him. Remember his \u201cnot bad for a running back\u201d retort after he threw five touchdown passes in the 2019 season opener in Miami.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now, it seems like Jackson has been able to close out the chatter about whether he can become an effective passer in the NFL.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I don\u2019t know if they\u2019re going to stop talking about it,\u201d Jackson said this week. &#8220;But all I know is my focus is on winning, and like I said before, [to] keep getting better. I never care [about] what they\u2019re saying.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"pull-quote\"><p><strong>&#8220;This league is full of superstars, but he&#8217;s certainly at the top of the list.&#8221; <cite>Chargers head coach Brandon Staley<br \/>\non Lamar Jackson<\/cite><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Jackson is right that the questions about him throwing the ball persisted even after he led the NFL in touchdown passes in his 2019 MVP season and recorded two games with a perfect passer rating. The difference this year is his passing is now the main act of the offense. His ability to throw outside the numbers, deep downfield and inside the red zone is why Baltimore ranks No. 1 in total offense.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Unlike his first three seasons, the Ravens don\u2019t have a dominant rushing attack, outside of Jackson scrambling. After losing its top two running backs &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4241985\/jk-dobbins\">J.K. Jackson is the only one to do both in a five-game span.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Ravens were hoping this would be the year Jackson would take the next step as a passer. But it\u2019s been more of a big leap so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>How much better can Jackson get?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I really haven&#8217;t seen my peak yet,\u201d Jackson said. &#8220;It&#8217;s still early in the season.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s realistic to expect Jackson to play better, and it\u2019s not all about Jackson\u2019s growth. First-round pick <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/4360939\/rashod-bateman\">Rashod Bateman<\/a> could provide another target for Jackson in the passing game on Sunday after he missed the first five games with a groin injury. All-Pro left tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/2980153\/ronnie-stanley\">Ronnie Stanley<\/a> is expected to return at some point after being sidelined since the season opener with an ankle injury.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;He\u2019s just scratching the surface on how good he can be,\u201d defensive end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/11284\/calais-campbell\">Calais Campbell<\/a> said. &#8220;He\u2019s still 24 years old. I mean, this is crazy \u2013 what he\u2019s capable of doing.
