That was the prevalent theme for the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>@CameronNewton<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\"><strong>Matt Rhule: A healthy Cam Newton is a special player.<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1 class=\"title1 \"><strong>\u2018I know he can help us win\u2019: How Cam Newton became a Panther (again)<\/strong><\/h1>\n<h1 class=\"title1 \"><strong>\u201cHe loves Charlotte. He loves the Carolina Panthers. He made that very clear to me,\u201d Rhule said.<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 mrvcC body-paragraph\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-23066\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/CAM-C.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"183\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cObviously, we brought Cam because of who he is at quarterback, and we brought him here to play,\u201d Rhule said. \u201cBut we\u2019re not looking into the future. We\u2019ve just got to get him here and start teaching him what we do. At the end of day, I talked to Cam. He told me he\u2019s healthy and feels great. This is as healthy as he\u2019s been. A healthy Cam Newton is a special player. So we\u2019ll just take it day by day.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After the team <a href=\"https:\/\/pantherswire.usatoday.com\/2021\/11\/11\/panthers-agree-to-terms-with-qb-cam-newton\/\">announced its signing<\/a> of Cam Newton, head coach Matt Rhule squashed the notion of any perceived beef between himself and his new quarterback. Rhule, whose 20-minute presser was almost exclusively about Cam\u2019s return (duh), told reporters that what\u2019s done is done and now it\u2019s about winning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCam Newton is a pro.\u201d Rhule said when asked if both sides had to clear the air of Newton\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pantherswire.usatoday.com\/2020\/02\/15\/panthers-david-tepper-cam-newton-comments\/\">unceremonious release<\/a> last year. \u201cWe made a football decision at the time, based on his health. We weren\u2019t sure what his health was. We had to make kind of a decision at the time.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd Cam understands that. He understands these are football decisions. He understands that these are football decisions, football-based evaluations that you have to make. So there wasn\u2019t anything but an amicable conversation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newton, who was recovering from nagging injuries to his right shoulder and left foot when Rhule was hired, was shown the door after a largely successful nine-year tenure with the organization. Their handling of the split from their franchise\u2019s leading passer, however, could\u2019ve gone a little more smoothly than it did.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Regardless\u2014Rhule, Newton and owner David Tepper are all grown men with one common goal and that\u2019s to bring W\u2019s back to Carolina. And that\u2019s also something Rhule knows Newton can do.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAt the end of the day, Cam and I\u00a0<em>did\u00a0<\/em>spend two months together,\u201d Rhule went on. \u201cHe was in here rehab and treatment trying to get his shoulder right. I did see him several days a week. So I did have a good feel for who he is. And I know that he\u2019s a competitor. I think they did him dirty from the beginning. They should&#8217;ve signed him to the contract he was looking for. Cam&#8217;s a great ball player. He&#8217;s going to go down as one of the greatest probably.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;It&#8217;s always back to winning,&#8221; Newton said simply, as he discussed the conversations with head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panthers.com\/team\/coaches-roster\/matt-rhule\">Matt Rhule<\/a> and owner David Tepper which led him back home. &#8220;That&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m here.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;Words can&#8217;t explain. Let&#8217;s state the obvious. I&#8217;d be a fool not to have taken the things I&#8217;ve learned in other organizations and apply it to what needs to be done here,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And also, learning a whole other situation. Coach Rhule talked about what the brand is. And I have to buy in. I want to buy in. I&#8217;m going to buy in, and get others to buy in. And that&#8217;s pretty much what it comes down to.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"d3-l-col__col-8\">\n<div class=\"nfl-c-article__container \">\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>Doing that means fitting in, which is not the natural state of the singularly talented.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>But he&#8217;s always been gifted. He&#8217;s never quite been given a situation like this. So he&#8217;s approaching it differently.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>He talked Friday about fasting, about purifying himself, based on services at his father&#8217;s church in Atlanta. He talked about the Book of Exodus, and mentioned in passing, without apparent irony, that, &#8220;I felt like Moses.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>There was much discussion of gratitude, because having had it all taken from him, he has learned the hard way that nothing is promised. So for him to say the things people expected him to say carried a different weight.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;I was in a good place before this,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I&#8217;m in a better place now.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"nfl-c-body-part nfl-c-body-part--text\">\n<p><strong>Moses, on the other hand, never got back to his destination. Newton may have, at least for the next eight weeks. He&#8217;s coming back with a different air, something approaching gravity. It&#8217;s irrelevant,&#8221; Newton said. &#8220;The fact that we&#8217;re able to make what may seem a lot of wrongs or some wrongs right, that&#8217;s the most exciting thing about it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;To hell with feelings. It would be the biggest right and wrong by just winning football games.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newton on Thursday signed a one-year deal worth up to $10 million for the remainder of the season, including $4.5 million guaranteed and a $1.5 million roster bonus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;This ain&#8217;t for no ploy. That&#8217;s pretty much what&#8217;s on my heart, and that&#8217;s how I&#8217;m going about it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newton made it clear the past was the past and has been since he began talking to coach Matt Rhule on Tuesday about a return to the team he led to the Super Bowl in 2015 under then-coach Ron Rivera.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;This wasn&#8217;t no apology, &#8216;Oh, we did you wrong, let&#8217;s bring you back,'&#8221; Newton said. &#8220;&#8230; It&#8217;s time to win. That&#8217;s where all of our energy is.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Panthers (4-5), despite losing five of their past six games, are just out of a wild-card playoff spot in the NFC heading into Sunday&#8217;s game at Arizona.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3051308\/pj-walker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PJ Walker<\/a> will start at quarterback with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/3912547\/sam-darnold\">Sam Darnold<\/a>, acquired in an offseason trade with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/team\/_\/name\/nyj\/new-york-jets\">New York Jets<\/a>, having been placed on injured reserve Friday with a shoulder injury that will take four to six weeks to heal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rhule said Newton &#8220;looks in great shape&#8221; and will make the trip to Arizona. That process began Friday with Newton spending the early portion of his first practice off to the side with quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan while offensive coordinator Joe Brady worked with Walker and backup <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/15948\/matt-barkley\">Matt Barkley<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newton likely will get his first start next week against the Washington Football Team coached by Rivera, who made the former Auburn star the top pick of the 2011 draft.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Newton&#8217;s goal is to help Carolina get to the playoffs, where the Panthers haven&#8217;t been since he led them to an 11-5 record in 2017. He&#8217;s more interested in that than in the fan excitement over him returning.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He hasn&#8217;t even looked at his phone since he got back.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;My head has been so far into a playbook,&#8221; Newton said. &#8220;I know the buzz is going on. If you follow me, you know I&#8217;m off of social media. So it&#8217;s not like I can follow it. That&#8217;s a good thing for me now because it would be distracting.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I just want everybody to know who&#8217;s a part of the Panthers Nation, I receive it, but this ain&#8217;t no parade. He has spent little time paying attention to what&#8217;s going on in the league, focusing on being a &#8220;full-time dad, full-time workout fiend.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He also has spent time fasting and gave a very biblical explanation of why he did that.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;One thing that God was trying to teach Moses through this transition was just have faith, trust
