It is what it is,\u201d Murray said after practice Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s a long season and I was always raised and taught that if you win as a team, the individual accolades will come.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThat\u2019s how I treated it in high school, that\u2019s how I treated it when I won the Heisman, same thing for now. I\u2019m not really too worried about MVP or anything like that.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It appears Murray\u2019s philosophy is pouring over to the wide receivers room.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Among the quarterback\u2019s improvements this year has been his ability to spread<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sub_story\">\n<p><strong>Five pass catchers have seen at least 15 targets come their way through three games, with A.J. Green and DeAndre Hopkins pacing the team with 18 apiece, followed by Christian Kirk and Chase Edmonds at 17 each.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Edmonds leads the way in receptions (17), Kirk has the most receiving yards (239) and Hopkins has found paydirt a team-high three times. But Murray can scoot no matter the vegetation: Kentucky bluegrass, Mexican feather grass, buffalo grass. The speed translates. No one really knows what it is, or at least no one\u2019s said publicly if they do. He <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/2019\/3\/13\/18261654\/kyler-murray-40-yard-dash-time-odds-pro-day-results\">supposedly clocked a hand-timed 4.38 in the spring of 2017<\/a>. There\u2019s grainy video of him running sprints at a Cardinals practice next to burner receiver Andy Isabella. Isabella ran a 4.31 at the 2019 combine. Murray held his own.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"q4DBGM\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"p-scalable-video\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XE0U-Td_y5U?rel=0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"sp8GiL\"><strong>But that\u2019s it. He\u2019s just open-minded, willing to try anything once. This isn\u2019t a foolproof way of operating. Murray\u2019s thrown a pick in the Cardinals\u2019 opening possession of the second half in each of their first three games this season. He also has a tendency to bail out of the pocket early, either because he\u2019s too small to see his receivers or he\u2019s said \u201cto hell with my progressions, let\u2019s move to the acrobatic portion of the routine.\u201d He can look bad, but he can look like magic too. ESPN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Lc-MJGPlurE&amp;t=87s&amp;ab_channel=ESPN\">Ryan Clark called him<\/a> \u201ca true master of deception.\u201d Defenders come in without a plan, find nothing but sod.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"7RnExc\"><strong>It\u2019s a wonder he\u2019s not cackling every time he drops a guy. If I were him, I\u2019d be laughing the whole way down the field, pointing at defenders as they fell. <em>So long, it\u2019s been good to know you.<\/em> You start to feel for the defense at a certain point. He cooks guys so bad they wind up on all fours like they\u2019re looking for a contact. Safeties have angles on him, but it doesn\u2019t matter. His game has a great sense of humor. Being a quarterback Murray\u2019s size requires a complete erasure of history, a certain loss of consciousness. There\u2019s not a ton of precedent for a guy his size doing what he\u2019s doing at the quarterback position. I like when analysts on television say \u201cthe ______ position.\u201d It would be much easier to just say quarterback, but \u201cthe quarterback position\u201d sounds smarter. Maybe it\u2019s that by saying \u201cthe quarterback position,\u201d they\u2019re letting you know they also know about all these other positions you\u2019ve never even heard of before, so if you have any questions just holler. It reminds me of how Michael Jordan talks about basketball. He doesn\u2019t always call basketball \u201cbasketball.\u201d Sometimes he likes saying \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/quotes\/michael_jordan_621259\">the game of basketball<\/a>.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/quotes\/michael_jordan_447194\">The phrasing<\/a>, somehow, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.espn.com\/espn\/feature\/story\/_\/page\/Michael-Jordan\/michael-jordan-not-left-building\">evokes wisdom<\/a>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"IACMfG\"><strong>It\u2019s fun to talk about Murray because his talent\u2019s so great it lets people start making claims about history, about football players and athletes and the whole of time. You get picked in the top 10 of the NFL <em>and<\/em> MLB drafts, and people throw roses. Before the 2019 NFL draft, Lincoln Riley, Murray\u2019s head coach at Oklahoma, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=fK7-IHfrPsI&amp;t=81s&amp;ab_channel=TheRichEisenShow\">told Rich Eisen<\/a>, \u201cYou\u2019re talking about one of the elite athletes that sports has ever seen.\u201d Some go further and call him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lsj8lE8ThJQ\">the best athlete in the world<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"4giHef\"><strong>One of Murray\u2019s backups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/insider\/story\/_\/id\/31510306\/can-arizona-cardinals-qb-kyler-murray-ever-top-hail-murray\">tried to describe<\/a> his speed. \u201cThat first step and burst\u2014it was pretty crazy to see. It was on a different scale, honestly.\u201d The athleticism makes people almost reverent. In 2018, Murray and Oklahoma beat TCU 52-27. He went 19-of-24 passing for 213 yards and four TDs. Murray stays in the spaceship he parks just outside of Scottsdale. He reads <em>The Art of War<\/em> and a novelization of Olivier Assayas\u2019s <em>Personal Shopper<\/em>. He likes the descriptions of Maureen\u2019s sweaters.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"SdPb53\"><strong>Murray holds the severed heads of his enemies while calmly telling Erin Andrews, \u201cWe just wanted to come out, set the tone, be aggressive.\u201d He wears a black suit and brown shoes and it just works. He begins every day with an ice cold glass of Kevin Sumlin\u2019s tears. Has them flown in special. He\u2019s got a tears guy. These pampered millionaire athletes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"5Qfif7\"><strong>Murray throws footballs in the air, unholsters his peacemaker, and blows them out of the sky. He puts on a blindfold and works on hip drive dissociation at the top of active volcanoes.
