Eli Manning is returning to the Giants<\/h1>\n

When Eli Manning retired in January 2020, his signature line came right after he quoted franchise patriarch Wellington Mara, who famously declared \u2018Once a Giant, always a Giant.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manning then added his special twist.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, it\u2019s only a Giant,\u201d he said.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

And, now, it\u2019s another line for Manning: A Giant, again.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manning on Monday made official his return to the only NFL franchise he ever played for, accepting a role with the team in business development, marketing and community and corporate relations \u2014 a non-football role, if you will. Manning will also collaborate with the Giants on original content development and fan engagement activities, including a lifestyle series to premiere this fall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAfter not being able to come back in the facility for a full year, to finally see my former teammates and the individuals I\u2019ve spent the past 16 years with \u2014 like the trainers and equipment guys, video, scouting, management, owners \u2014 it\u2019s incredibly exciting to be back,\u201d Manning said. \u201cStaying involved with this organization is very important to me. I love the organization, love the Giants and the fans, and so I want to do anything possible to help them out and be a part of it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

After 16 years and two Super Bowl victories on his watch as the starting quarterback, it was readily apparent no one was ever again to don the No. 10 jersey he wore for his entire career. That number will officially be retired Sept. 26 during a halftime ceremony of the game against the Falcons at MetLife Stadium. Manning that day will also become the 43rd member of the Giants\u2019 Ring of Honor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manning\u2019s first NFL start, back in 2004, came against the Falcons, and his only home-field playoff victory also came against Atlanta.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great honor and just an unbelievable feeling,\u201d Manning said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what the emotions will be that day. I know they\u2019ll be high, though. To have that feeling and that final goodbye, a true goodbye to the fans, and to thank them for supporting me during my 16 seasons here, it\u2019s going to be special.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fittingly, Manning, 40, signed his latest contract with the Giants with co-owner John Mara \u2014 Wellington\u2019s son \u2014 standing nearby<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manning spent the last year at home in New Jersey with his wife, Abby, and their four children \u2014 three daughters and one son. He coached three girls basketball teams, one softball team and attended lacrosse tournaments and swim meets watching his kids. This was his plan \u2014 to take some time away from the Giants to figure out what came next for him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI had a little break,\u2019\u2019 Manning said. \u201cI think both sides needed a little parting. But I\u2019m excited to team back up with the Giants and help out in any way they feel they need it.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

It was time to get out of the house.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe wife finally said, \u2018All right, you gotta get back to work, you gotta get out of the house, you\u2019re cramping my style a little bit,\u2019 \u2019\u2019 Manning said. \u201cSo, Abby\u2019s making me get back into the office and do some real work.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Manning played a Giants-record 236 regular-season games and never missed a game because of injury. His postseason runs after the 2007 and 2011 seasons culminated in two Super Bowl MVP awards and ensured he would forever be a Giants legend.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had a mutual interest in him returning to the organization and we’re thrilled to welcome him back.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The team also revealed that they will retire Manning\u2019s jersey and officially induct him into the Ring of Honor on Sept. 26, when the Giants host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It’s a great honor and just an unbelievable feeling,” Manning said<\/a>. “I don’t know what the emotions will be that day. I know they’ll be high, though. To have that feeling and that final goodbye, a true goodbye to the fans, and to thank them for supporting me during my 16 seasons here, it’s going to be special. I think it’s an opportunity for me to thank everybody here \u2013 teammates, coaches and the organization \u2013 for believing in me, for bringing me to New York and for giving me a chance to have success. It’ll be an awesome day to be here and a great celebration.”<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Manning played for the Giants for his entire career from 2004-19. He was selected No. 1 overall by the San Diego Chargers in 2004, but was instantly traded to New York. Manning threw for more than 57,000 yards and 366 touchdowns during his 16 seasons with the Giants and led them to two Super Bowl wins. The four-time Pro Bowler also was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year in 2016.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Manning, the team said, will help with business development, marketing and community relations initiatives in his new role. He will also help create original content with the organization, and is set to launch a new \u201clifestyle series\u201d this fall.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Staying involved with this organization is very important to me,\u201d Manning said<\/a>. \u201cI love the organization, love the Giants and the fans, and so I want to do anything possible to help them out and be a part of it.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Elisha Nelson Manning (born January 3, 1981)[1]<\/a><\/sup> is a former American football<\/a> quarterback<\/a> who played in the National Football League<\/a> (NFL) for 16 seasons with the New York Giants<\/a>. After playing college football<\/a> at Ole Miss<\/a>, he was selected first overall<\/a> in the 2004 NFL Draft<\/a> by the San Diego Chargers<\/a> and traded to the Giants during the draft. He is the youngest son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning<\/a> and younger brother of former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although Manning struggled with consistency throughout much of his career, he is recognized for twice leading the Giants to underdog Super Bowl<\/a> victories against the New England Patriots<\/a>‘ dynasty<\/a> in Super Bowl XLII<\/a> and Super Bowl XLVI<\/a>.<\/sup> The former, which saw the wild card<\/a> Giants defeat a Patriots team that was the first to win all 16 regular-season games, is regarded as one of the greatest sports upsets of all time. As the Giants’ starting quarterback from 2004 to 2019, Manning holds the franchise records for passing yards<\/a>, touchdown passes<\/a>, and completions.<\/sup> He also demonstrated durability throughout his career, never missing a game due to injury and starting 210 consecutive games from 2004 to 2017, the third-longest consecutive starts<\/a> streak by an NFL quarterback.
