Neymar, 29, had one season remaining on the deal he signed when joining PSG in 2017, and has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Ligue 1, possibly even with a return to Barcelona. But this weekend\u2019s announcement puts an end to that transfer speculation.<\/strong><\/div>\n
This week\u2019s Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester City means that Neymar\u2019s wait for European glory with PSG continues. The Brazilian has missed five knockout matches in the Champions League since joining PSG due to injury, but has featured heavily in the side\u2019s run to the final last year and semi-finals this season.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Neymar has scored 85 goals in his 112 PSG appearances since joining from Barcelona, winning seven domestic trophies in that time.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Neymar himself said \u201cI\u2019m really pleased to continue my adventure at Paris Saint-Germain,<\/strong><\/div>\n
“I\u2019m very happy in Paris, and proud to be part of this squad, to work with these players, a great coach and to be part of the history of this club.<\/strong><\/div>\n

Focus will now turn to the future of Neymar\u2019s PSG team-mate Kylian Mbappe. The 22-year-old Frenchman also has just a year left on his existing deal, and has been heavily linked with a move away this summer, with Real Madrid the most likely destination.<\/strong><\/div>\n
But, with Real and a number of Europe\u2019s biggest clubs unlikely to spend huge money following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mbappe\u2019s options may well be limited. PSG are hopeful of using that to persuade the World Cup winner to agree a new deal later this month.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Neymar da Silva Santos J\u00fanior (born 5 February 1992), known as Neymar, is a Brazilian professional footballer<\/a> who plays as a forward<\/a> for Ligue 1<\/a> club Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> and the Brazil national team<\/a>. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n

Neymar came into prominence at Santos<\/a>, where he made his professional debut aged 17. He helped the club win two successive Campeonato Paulista<\/a> championships, a Copa do Brasil<\/a>, and the 2011 Copa Libertadores<\/a>; the latter being Santos’ first since 1963. Neymar was twice named the South American Footballer of the Year<\/a>, in 2011<\/a> and 2012<\/a>, and soon relocated to Europe to join Barcelona<\/a>. As part of Barcelona’s attacking trio with Lionel Messi<\/a> and Luis Su\u00e1rez<\/a>, he won the continental treble<\/a> of La Liga<\/a>, the Copa del Rey<\/a>, and the UEFA Champions League<\/a>, and finished third for the FIFA Ballon d’Or<\/a> in 2015<\/a> for his performances. In 2017, Neymar was included by Time<\/a><\/i> in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world<\/a>.\u00a0 By 2018, France Football<\/a><\/i> ranked Neymar the world’s third highest-paid footballer. Neymar has a son, Davi Lucca, born on 13 August 2011, with former girlfriend Carolina Dantas.<\/sup> He has a very close sibling relationship<\/a> with his sister Rafaella Beckran, and cemented this platonic<\/a> closeness by tattooing her face on his arm, while Beckran tattooed her brother’s eyes on her arm.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neymar is a Christian<\/a>,<\/sup> and follows the Pentecostal<\/a> branch of the religion. Neymar has spoken about his faith saying: “Life only makes sense when our highest ideal is to serve Christ<\/a>!” Additionally, he has sometimes worn a headband with the words “100% Jesus”. Neymar reportedly also tithes<\/a> (10%) his income to his church and has named Kak\u00e1<\/a> as his religious role model. In July 2019, police announced that a rape investigation against Neymar would be dropped due to insufficient evidence.<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n

On 2 September 2020, it was reported that Neymar, along with PSG teammates \u00c1ngel Di Mar\u00eda<\/a> and Leandro Paredes<\/a>, tested positive for COVID-19<\/a>. The French sports newspaper L’\u00c9quipe<\/a><\/i> said that the three players reportedly went on vacation in Ibiza<\/a>. As a result, they were quarantined for one week, and the rest of the players and working staff were scheduled to take a coronavirus test within the same week.<\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n

During a match between Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille<\/a>, Neymar reported being racially abused by \u00c1lvaro Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a>, after being sent off for hitting him in the back of the head.<\/sup> In the aftermath, Neymar hit back on social media<\/a>, as the Spanish defender denied saying any racist comments during the match. On 16 September, Neymar was handed a two-match ban for his actions; the LFP<\/a> also began an investigation into the alleged racist comments made by \u00c1lvaro. Several days before the decision made by the French league, Spanish radio station Cadena SER<\/a> claimed to have footage of Neymar racially abusing OM player Hiroki Sakai<\/a>.\u00a0 On 30 September, the LFP decided that both \u00c1lvaro and Neymar would receive no suspensions, because proof of their wrongdoings were insufficient. Additionally, the day after the ruling, Sakai denied on social media that Neymar had made racist comments toward him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Neymar has signed many sponsorship deals since his reputation began to grow from the age of 17.
