Jofra Chioke Archer (born 1 April 1995) is a Barbadian-born English cricketer<\/a> representing England<\/a> and Sussex<\/a>. In April 2019, Archer was selected to play for the England team in limited overs<\/a> fixtures against Ireland<\/a> and Pakistan<\/a>. He made his international debut for England in May 2019, and was part of the England squad that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup<\/a>. He then made his Test debut later that summer, against Australia<\/a> in the 2019 Ashes series<\/a>. In April 2020, Archer was named as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It was a sight to warm the hearts of England fans everywhere. Just a shame the man himself couldn’t escape the chill.<\/p>\n

At Hove on Wednesday afternoon, underneath a bobble hat and a couple of jumpers, Jofra Archer<\/a> emerged from the Sussex dressing room and headed towards the end of his mark.<\/p>\n

Delayed but eventually de-layered, the seamer took the first stride towards a vital few months – for himself and for English cricket.<\/p>\n

Far bigger challenges await than this run-out for Sussex 2nd XI against Surrey. And far more will be needed from Archer if England are to triumph in either the T20 World Cup or an Ashes series Down Under. But after cutting his right hand on a broken fish tank, at least Archer is back in the goldfish bowl.<\/p>\n

Surgery to remove shards of glass, and another injection for his persistent elbow problem, was never going to prove ideal preparation. No wonder he ended wicketless.<\/p>\n

All being well, Archer would have spent recent weeks in the red-hot atmosphere of the Indian Super League. Instead he returned among brass monkeys in Hove.<\/p>\n

England bowling coach Jon Lewis was here with him; Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart was among the few interested spectators. Beyond that, it was empty seats and several long-lens cameras for company.<\/p>\n

This is Archer’s first action of any kind since March – save a cameo with the bat on Tuesday – and he began with a short burst either side of lunch before the rain came.<\/p>\n

There was almost the perfect return when Archer’s first delivery was chipped towards mid-on.<\/p>\n

But it fell short of the fielder and that was the closest Archer came during his 11 overs until he found the outside edge of Ryan Patel, only for the chance to be shelled in the slips.<\/p>\n

Predictably, perhaps, his bowling lacked some of its usual zip and rust certainly remained – more than once he was punished for drifting too straight or too wide.<\/p>\n

The good news? Neither his hand nor his troublesome elbow seemed to cause any problems. A few deliveries did climb past the outside edge and Archer’s second over saw the first back-bending bouncer.<\/p>\n

He wore no visible strapping and Archer had enough faith in his fingers to take a place in the slips – even if he did practise catching wearing a white glove.<\/p>\n

From the cordon he watched a couple of wickets tumble at the other end, knowing his time will come – starting, he hopes, against New Zealand at Lord’s next month.<\/p>\n

English cricketer\u00a0Jofra Archer was back on the field making a comeback from his elbow injury and the finger injury that kept him out of the IPL 2021. Earlier, Jofra Archer had missed his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 matches with the Rajasthan Royals due to an injury to his right middle finger. After undergoing surgery and going into rehab, Archer was seen batting in the Second Eleven Championship.<\/p>\n

After his finger surgery, Archer is taking it slow and steady to recover and complete his rehab process in the Hove. Archer took to the field for the first time since his injury and was batting for the Sussex 2nd XI in the Second Eleven Championship. The match is taking place between the Sussex 2nd XI and the Surrey 2nd XI from May 4-7 in Brighton.<\/p>\n

Earlier, Jofra Archer\u2019s long-standing right arm elbow injury had seen him miss the Test series of England against India. He also injured his right-hand middle finger in the fish tank accident which saw him miss the earlier matches with the Rajasthan Royals and later back out of the IPL 2021 completely. After undergoing an operation on his finger, Jofra Archer was in rehab for around 2 weeks.<\/p>\n

The ECB later stated that Archer would then step up his training regime with the Sussex and was expected to return back if he was able to bowl pain-free. In the match against the Surrey 2nd XI, Jofra Archer scored 35 runs from 46 balls where he hit 3 4s and 2 6s. The Jofra Archer injury\u00a0might be a blessing in disguise as he could get back and work on himself to improve his game further. His injury also caused an early exit from the tournament and as a result, he\u00a0avoided all the chaos from the IPL 2021 suspended decision.<\/p>\n
