Trail Blazers reserve Carmelo Anthony is the 14th-leading scorer in NBA history, putting up 18 points in Friday\u2019s victory over the Warriors to surpass Spurs legend Tim Duncan on the career list.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just happy to continue to do what I love to do and be out here still doing it at his stage of my career,\u201d Anthony said. \u201cI\u2019m still enjoying the game and I think it shows. To surpass Tim Duncan, we all know how great he was and what he meant to the game \u2026 I\u2019m still going.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anthony, 36, is averaging 23.5 points for his career, now spanning 1,126 games over 18 seasons. He passed Duncan with a contested corner 3-pointer late in the third quarter of Portland\u2019s victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provided he stays healthy and relatively productive, Anthony could surpass Hakeem Olajuwon, Oscar Robertson and Dominique Wilkins to reach 11th place by season\u2019s end.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Carmelo Anthony<\/a> has made a living out of one thing and one thing only: putting basketballs through hoops, his ability to score has never been in question, and on Friday, he hit an offensive milestone few players ever even sniff. In scoring his 26,498th NBA<\/a> point, he passed Tim Duncan for 14th on the league’s all-time scoring list.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The play came late in the fourth quarter of a blowout victory over the Golden State Warriors<\/a>. Jusuf Nurkic<\/a> hit him in the corner for a 3-pointer that might not have affected the long-decided outcome, but it did get him past Duncan in the record books.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

In all likelihood, Anthony will climb a few more spots this season. He is fewer than 200 points away from No. 13 Dominique Wilkins, fewer than 300 points away from No. 12 Oscar Robertson and fewer than 500 points away from No. 11 Hakeem Olajuwon. If he plays multiple seasons, he could theoretically climb as high as No. 8 Shaquille O’Neal, who scored 28,596 points in his career. After that, Wilt Chamberlain’s 31,419 points at No. 7 are likely out of reach. <\/strong><\/p>\n

But even reaching No. 14 is a tremendous achievement. Duncan is a two-time MVP and a five-time champion. He’s the sort of player anyone should want to chase in the record books. Now Anthony has passed him, and he’ll only rise from here.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Anthony admitted he didn’t realize he had surpassed Ducan in the moment.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t even know about the record until I came on the bench and got subbed out,\u201d Melo said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The future Hall of Famer also joked that the record nearly didn\u2019t happen Friday night because right before he hit the corner three, he was looking to get subbed out for a much needed break.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the NBA restart, Melo worked his way up the All-Time scoring list to No. 15<\/a>, passing Paul Pierce and John Havlicek on the esteemed list.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now\u00a0that Melo has scored 26,499 points over his 18 years in the league, he\u2019s 169 points away from snatching the No. 13 spot from Dominique Wilkins.<\/strong><\/p>\n
