Air Jordan 5 \u2018Shattered Backboard\u2019 Reportedly Releasing in Fall 2021<\/h1>\n

Michael Jordan\u2019s backboard-shattering dunk during a 1985 Nike exhibition game in Italy could serve as inspiration for a new Air Jordan 5 style coming next year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sneaker-leaking social media account @Soleheatonfeet<\/a> shared on Instagram that the forthcoming Air Jordan 5 Retro \u201cShattered Backboard\u201d will hit shelves in fall \u201921. Given its far-off release date, early images of the pair have yet to surface, however @zSneakerheadz<\/a> shared a mock-up photo to give fans an idea of what they can expect.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The rendering shows that the \u201cShattered Backboard\u201d iteration of Michael Jordan\u2019s fifth signature shoe will sport a white leather upper with black and orange accents covering the tongue, sock liner and midsole. Based on the mock-up, the netting material found on the sides will also appear near the ankle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the time of press, Jordan Brand has yet to confirm the release of the Air Jordan 5 Retro \u201cShattered Backboard,\u201d but the aforementioned accounts suggest that it will release on Sept. 25, 2021. Although no release info has been revealed, shoes like this have been available on the Nike SNKRS app<\/a> and at select Jordan Brand retailers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordan Brand\u2019s \u201cShattered Backboard\u201d theme made its debut with the Air Jordan 1 High from 2015 and most recently dropping a 3.0 version<\/a> of October 2019. For fans not interested in waiting until next year, the original \u201cShattered Backboard\u201d Air Jordan 1 High is currently reselling on for around $1,260.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although the technology is modern, Jordan Brand revealed that going laceless was something designer Tinker Hatfield wanted to do 25 years ago with Air Jordan 11.<\/strong>\u201cThe Adapt iteration takes the silhouette into Jordan Brand\u2019s future. Update: Nov. 11, 2020 at 6:15 p.m. ET<\/strong>Jordan Brand confirmed late today that it has a new Air Jordan 11 coming for the shoe\u2019s 25th anniversary.<\/strong>The sportswear giant revealed images and release info of the Air Jordan 11 \u201cJubilee,\u201d which is the 25th anniversary version that is inspired by original sketches of the shoe. Jordan Brand equipped the look with metallic silver Jumpman branding and \u201cJordan\u201d on the eyelets, as well as embroidered \u201c23\u201d on the heel and printed \u201c25\u201d on the insoles, both in silver. Also, special stitched \u201cJumpman\u201d and \u201cJordan\u201d tags are on the tongue.<\/strong>The Air Jordan 11 \u201cJubilee\u201d arrives on Dec. 12 via the SNKRS app and will retail for $220.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Air Jordan fans may want to keep an eye on the SNKRS app after the first episode of its new \u201c23Live\u201d series that debuts tonight.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordan Brand announced across its social media platforms<\/a> that the \u201c23Live\u201d will be hosted by Marcus Jordan, the son of NBA icon Michael Jordan, who is also the founder of Trophy Room. The first episode will go live exclusively on the SNKRS app at 8:30 p.m. ET.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The company also posted on social media an image hinting that the discussions for the first episode will be centered around the Air Jordan 11 and its impact on both basketball and sneaker fans since its 1995 debut. Talk on social media has suggested that commentary in the first episode could also lead to the unveiling of the Air Jordan 11 Retro \u201c25 Years of History\u201d<\/a> colorway as well as a surprise release of the shoe before the end of the episode. This early drop, however, has not been confirmed by the brand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

WHO IS MICHAEL JORDAN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963), also known by his initials MJ,<\/sup> is an American former professional basketball<\/a> player and the principal owner of the Charlotte Hornets<\/a> of the National Basketball Association<\/a> (NBA). He played 15 seasons in the NBA, winning six championships with the Chicago Bulls<\/a>. His biography on the official NBA<\/a> website states: “By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.” He was integral in helping to popularize the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s, becoming a global cultural icon<\/a> in the process.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jordan played college basketball<\/a> for three seasons under coach Dean Smith<\/a> with the North Carolina Tar Heels<\/a>. As a freshman, he was a member of the Tar Heels’ national championship team in 1982<\/a>. Jordan joined the Bulls in 1984<\/a> as the third overall draft pick, and quickly emerged as a league star, entertaining crowds with his prolific scoring while gaining a reputation as one of the game’s best defensive players.<\/sup> His leaping ability, demonstrated by performing slam dunks<\/a> from the free throw line<\/a> in Slam Dunk Contests<\/a>, earned him the nicknames “Air Jordan” and “His Airness”.
