Legendary NBA big man Hakeem Olajuwon isn\u2019t having any debates about the league\u2019s greatest player of all-time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James debates heated up in 2020, thanks to ESPN\u2019s The Last Dance and the Los Angeles Lakers winning the 2020 NBA Finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

James now has four NBA championships to go against Jordan\u2019s six. For many, the debate between Michael and LeBron is now extremely close. Some will even go as far to say that James is the superior player.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But not Olajuwon. The legendary Houston Rockets big man played during Jordan\u2019s era and he believes that it\u2019s not close.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people start comparing him (LeBron) with Jordan, then that\u2019s not a fair comparison,\u201d Hakeem Olajuwon said on CNBC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon (\/\u0259<\/span>\u02c8<\/span>l<\/span>a\u026a<\/span>\u0292<\/span>u<\/span>\u0252<\/span>n<\/span>\/<\/a><\/span><\/span>; Yoruba:\u00a0<\/small>[ola\u025fuw\u0254\u0303]<\/a><\/span>; born January 21, 1963), formerly Akeem Olajuwon, is a Nigerian-American<\/a> former professional basketball<\/a> player. He is considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He was nicknamed “The Dream” during his basketball career after he dunked so effortlessly that his college coach said it “looked like a dream.”<\/sup> From 1984 to 2002, he played the center<\/a> position in the National Basketball Association<\/a> (NBA) for the Houston Rockets<\/a> and the Toronto Raptors<\/a>. He led the Rockets to back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. In 2008, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame<\/a>, and in 2016, he was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born in Lagos, Nigeria<\/a>, Olajuwon traveled from his home country to play for the University of Houston<\/a> under head coach Guy Lewis<\/a>. His college career for the Cougars<\/a> included three trips to the Final Four<\/a>. Olajuwon was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the first overall selection of the 1984 NBA draft<\/a>, a draft that included Michael Jordan<\/a>, Charles Barkley<\/a>, and John Stockton<\/a>. He combined with the 7\u00a0feet 4\u00a0inches (224\u00a0cm) Ralph Sampson<\/a> to form a duo dubbed the “Twin Towers”. The two led the Rockets to the 1986 NBA Finals<\/a>, where they lost in six games to the Boston Celtics<\/a>. After Sampson was traded to the Warriors<\/a> in 1988, Olajuwon became the Rockets’ undisputed leader. He led the league in rebounding<\/a> twice (1989, 1990) and blocks<\/a> three times (1990, 1991, 1993).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite very nearly being traded during a bitter contract dispute before the 1992\u201393 season, he remained in Houston where in 1993\u201394, he became the only player in NBA history to win the NBA MVP<\/a>, Defensive Player of the Year<\/a>, and Finals MVP<\/a> awards in the same season. His Rockets won back-to-back championships against the New York Knicks<\/a> (avenging his college championship loss to Patrick Ewing<\/a>), and Shaquille O’Neal<\/a>‘s Orlando Magic. In 1996, Olajuwon was a member of the Olympic gold medal-winning United States national team<\/a>, and was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History<\/a>. He ended his career as the league’s all-time leader<\/a> in blocks<\/a> (3,830) and is one of four NBA players to record a quadruple-double<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
