This time, though, it was for the Dodgers instead of against them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"NSBRL6PLXNAV5I2NT3LW62QNGA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\"><strong>Betts homered in the eighth inning of Game 6 against Rays righty Pete Fairbanks and the Dodgers won, 3-1, clinching their first championship since 1988. Betts won his second career ring after helping the Red Sox defeat the Dodgers in the World Series two years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Betts was recognized for his offensive production days after he was named a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/sports\/dodgers\/story\/2020-11-03\/mookie-betts-gold-glove-griffin-canning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-id=\"70\" data-m=\"{&quot;i&quot;:70,&quot;p&quot;:66,&quot;n&quot;:&quot;partnerLink&quot;,&quot;y&quot;:24,&quot;o&quot;:4}\">Gold Glove award winner<\/a> for his work in right field for the fifth time in his career. He became the Angels\u2019 all-time home run leader when he clubbed the 300<sup>th<\/sup> of his career in August.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"MZS6RJRPXJCSPDMRW3OUBMPUNE\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\"><strong>Betts, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/redsox\/2020\/10\/mookie-betts-to-david-ortiz-i-thought-i-was-a-red-sox-for-life.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">who was traded from Boston to Los Angeles in a five-player deal in February<\/a>, scored the Dodgers&#8217; last two runs in their win. In the sixth inning, shortly after Rays manager Kevin Cash made the questionable decision to pull starter Blake Snell, Betts scored the go-ahead run on a Corey Seager fielder\u2019s choice. He then added some insurance with a leadoff shot off Fairbanks in the ninth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"673NPF4TTVDDHARRXCR3OOXOOA\" class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\"><strong>Betts finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run and two strikeouts in Game 6 and 21-for-74 (.296) with two home runs, eight doubles and eight RBIs in 18 postseason games. In the World Series, he was 7-for-26 (.269) with two homers and two doubles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Markus Lynn &#8220;Mookie&#8221; Betts (born October 7, 1992) is an American professional <a title=\"Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baseball\">baseball<\/a> <a title=\"Right fielder\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Right_fielder\">right fielder<\/a> for the <a title=\"Los Angeles Dodgers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Los_Angeles_Dodgers\">Los Angeles Dodgers<\/a> of <a title=\"Major League Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball\">Major League Baseball<\/a> (MLB). He previously played for the <a title=\"Boston Red Sox\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boston_Red_Sox\">Boston Red Sox<\/a>. In 2018, while with the Red Sox, he became the first player in MLB history to win the <a title=\"Major League Baseball Most Valuable Player Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball_Most_Valuable_Player_Award\">Most Valuable Player<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Silver Slugger\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Silver_Slugger\">Silver Slugger<\/a>, <a title=\"Rawlings Gold Glove Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rawlings_Gold_Glove_Award\">Gold Glove<\/a>, <a title=\"List of Major League Baseball batting champions\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_batting_champions\">batting title<\/a>, and <a title=\"World Series\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_Series\">World Series<\/a> in the same season.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Betts was <a title=\"Major League Baseball draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball_draft\">drafted<\/a> by the Red Sox in <a title=\"2011 Major League Baseball draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011_Major_League_Baseball_draft\">2011<\/a>, and made his MLB debut in the 2014 season, splitting time between <a title=\"Second baseman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_baseman\">second base<\/a> and the <a title=\"Outfielder\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Outfielder\">outfield<\/a>. He bowled a <a title=\"Perfect game (bowling)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perfect_game_(bowling)\">perfect game<\/a> in the World Series of Bowling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"High_school_career\" class=\"mw-headline\">High school career<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>In 2010, Betts&#8217;s junior year at <a title=\"John Overton High School\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Overton_High_School\">John Overton High School<\/a> in Nashville, Betts batted .548 with 24 steals. In November that year, Betts signed a letter of commitment to attend the <a title=\"University of Tennessee\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Tennessee\">University of Tennessee<\/a> on a baseball scholarship, also getting recruited by <a title=\"Vanderbilt University\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vanderbilt_University\">Vanderbilt University<\/a>, <a title=\"Mississippi State University\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mississippi_State_University\">Mississippi State University<\/a> and the <a title=\"University of Alabama at Birmingham\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Alabama_at_Birmingham\">University of Alabama at Birmingham<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>At Overton, Betts was also a standout basketball player, named MVP of the District 12-AAA league his senior season while averaging 14.1 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game; and also named Class AAA All-City Player of the Year for the <a title=\"Nashville, Tennessee\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nashville,_Tennessee\">Nashville, Tennessee<\/a> metropolitan area.<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> His junior year, Betts was named MVP of the District 12-AAA tournament. Betts also excelled in bowling, named the Tennessee boys Bowler of the Year in 2010 with a high score of 290. He grew up bowling at the Donelson Strike and Spare in Donelson, Tennessee.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"Bowling\" class=\"mw-headline\">Bowling<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Mookie&#8217;s mother is an avid <a title=\"Ten-pin bowling\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ten-pin_bowling\">bowler<\/a> and taught Mookie to bowl at an early age.<sup id=\"cite_ref-autogenerated2_13-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Betts was named the Tennessee Boys Bowler of the Year in 2010, having set Tennessee high school records that season with a 290 game and an 827 three-game series.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Betts competed in the <a title=\"Professional Bowlers Association\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Professional_Bowlers_Association\">Professional Bowlers Association<\/a> (PBA) World Series of Bowling in <a title=\"Reno, Nevada\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reno,_Nevada\">Reno, Nevada<\/a> in 2015 and 2017.<sup id=\"cite_ref-102\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He has officially bowled three <a title=\"Perfect game (bowling)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perfect_game_(bowling)\">perfect games<\/a>, on January 27, 2013; February 2, 2016; and November 12, 2017.
