\"\"Time Magazine released its annual\u00a0100 Most Influential People<\/a> issue and for the first time, a soccer player is one of the covers. That cover player is Liverpool and Egyptian National Team forward Mohamed Salah.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salah is on one of six individual covers in 2019, along with Gayle King, Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson, Nancy Pelosi, Sandra Oh, and Taylor Swift.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salah\u2019s entry<\/a> is written by Last Week Tonight<\/em> host and Liverpool fan John Oliver, and his inclusion is warranted not only because he is one of the best soccer players in the world, but because he\u2019s a Muslim who doesn\u2019t minimize his faith. In a world where only the terrible actions of Muslim extremists are publicized, Salah transcends that through his play to be one of the top players without sacrificing his religious beliefs.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

As a result, Salah is using his influence as a world famous soccer player to hopefully bring change to the Middle East. In an interview with Time<\/a>, Salah called on the region to change how they treat women and grant them the same rights that men are granted. It\u2019s unlikely that the words of one man will bring change to the region, but it\u2019s worth a shot.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah said men in “my culture and in the Middle East” need to treat women with more respect as he was named one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Mo Salah is a better human being than he is a football player,” wrote Oliver. “And he’s one of the best football players in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Mo is an iconic figure for Egyptians, Scousers and Muslims the world over, and yet he always comes across as a humble, thoughtful, funny man who isn’t taking any of this too seriously.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in June 2017 and scored 44 goals in his debut season at the club.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This season he has scored 19 Premier League goals for leaders Liverpool, who are chasing their first top-flight title since 1990.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“People always have big expectations from you,” he added. “You see the kids, they’re wearing your shirt and they say they wish they could be like you one day.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“So they put you under pressure a bit, but that is something that makes you proud about what you have reached until now.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Salah was one of three international sports stars named on the list, South Africa’s double 800m Olympic champion Caster Semenya and Japan’s tennis world number one Naomi Osaka the others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During his second spell in England<\/a>, he adapted his game from a natural winger to a complete forward<\/a> and quickly became the focal point of the team. Salah would go on to break the Premier League scoring record for a 38 game season, receiving the Premier League Golden Boot<\/a> after registering a record 32 goals in 36 league games. His record-breaking performances saw him receive a number of other accolades, including the PFA Players’ Player of the Year<\/a>, the Football Writers’ Player of the Year<\/a> and the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year<\/a> awards. Salah also came third in the award for the 2018 Best FIFA Men’s Player<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
