It can be brutal for teams, but sport&#8217;s brutal.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>England head coach Simon Amor said he was &#8220;pleased&#8221; with how his players adapted to the new structure, but captain Tom Mitchell claims he is &#8220;not totally sold on the new format&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;There are pros and cons to it but it&#8217;s up to World Rugby to keep mixing things up and keep improving the game,&#8221; said Mitchell.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Despite retaining the title in the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s tournament, New Zealand coach Clark Laidlaw also remains unconvinced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15949\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ab7s-300x158.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ab7s-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ab7s.png 563w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>&#8220;As a spectacle I&#8217;m sure everyone enjoyed it, but when you&#8217;ve got coaches and players&#8217; livelihoods at stake, and the format isn&#8217;t quite what we&#8217;re paid to do, it&#8217;s an interesting question,&#8221; said Laidlaw.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"content__header tonal__header\">\n<div class=\"u-cf\">\n<h1 class=\"content__headline \"><strong>Samoa player banned after tunnel fracas at sevens World Cup in US<\/strong><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"tonal__standfirst u-cf\">\n<p><strong>World Rugby has confirmed that a Samoa player has been suspended after a tunnel fracas during the sevens World Cup in San Francisco on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wales\u2019s Tom Williams was\u00a0replaced in their squad on Sunday after sustaining injuries allegedly following an incident with Samoa\u2019s Gordon Langkilde. Langkilde was suspended for the final day of the tournament, <a class=\"u-underline\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.standard.co.uk\/sport\/samoan-banned-for-alleged-tunnel-attack-on-wales-star-at-rugby-world-cup-sevens-a3893881.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">according to the Evening Standard<\/a>, which said that police are investigating.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Williams is reported to have been injured after Wales\u2019s 24-19 extra-time win against Samoa. World Rugby confirmed that a Samoan player had been suspended and that US authorities were pursuing the matter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWe can confirm a Samoa player has been provisionally suspended following an initial investigation into an alleged incident in the tunnel area,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe alleged behaviour is not aligned with the sport\u2019s values and the excellent spirit in which this competition has been played.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-15951\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/NZB.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/>Meanwhile the England head coach, Simon Amor, was positive about his squad\u2019s sevens campaign despite defeat in the World Cup final. Amor\u2019s side\u2019s hopes of achieving sevens World Cup glory for the first time since 1993 were dashed by New Zealand.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>England, inaugural sevens world champions 25 years ago, reached the final at AT&amp;T Park by beating Samoa, the USA and South Africa. But against New Zealand they lost 33-12 despite tries from Mike Ellery and Ruaridh McConnochie.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThis marks the end of a very long year but I am really pleased with the way that we\u2019ve grown as a programme and how the players have grown as well,\u201d Amor said. \u201cSince the Commonwealth Games we have won medals at every tournament bar one. I am delighted with the way the guys performed right the way through the tournament. They came through some really close games and played some outstanding rugby.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>England produced their best performance in the semi-finals, delivering a spectacular display to knock out reigning world series champions South Africa 29-7.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Form in the season-long world series suggested England might have had their work cut out to progress beyond the quarter-finals. But after edging past Samoa in the round of 16, then winning a thriller against the United States, they moved up a gear.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>England also responded well to the tournament\u2019s straight knockout format. Amor added: \u201cThe format makes it high-pressured with lots of drama, which is great for all those fans watching. The atmosphere in the stadium was unbelievable right the way through the tournament.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Zealand were crowned sevens World Cup winners for a third time. They blasted out of the blocks to go ahead inside the opening minute when Sione Molia showed his pace to outstrip England\u2019s defence and claim a try that Kurt Baker converted. England could not get out of their own half, and Molia punished them with a close-range touchdown, before Baker\u2019s conversion opened up a 14-point advantage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>South Africa won the bronze medal match, defeating Fiji 24-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MORE ON THE ALL BLACKS OF NEW ZEALAND<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The New Zealand national rugby union team, called the All Blacks, represents New Zealand in men&#8217;s <a title=\"Rugby union\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rugby_union\">rugby union<\/a>, which is known as the country&#8217;s <a title=\"National sport\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_sport\">national sport<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> The team has won the last two <a title=\"Rugby World Cup\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rugby_World_Cup\">Rugby World Cups<\/a>, in <a title=\"2011 Rugby World Cup\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011_Rugby_World_Cup\">2011<\/a> and <a title=\"2015 Rugby World Cup\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2015_Rugby_World_Cup\">2015<\/a>, as well as the inaugural tournament in <a title=\"1987 Rugby World Cup\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1987_Rugby_World_Cup\">1987<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They have a 77% winning record in <a title=\"Test match (rugby union)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Test_match_(rugby_union)\">test match<\/a> rugby, and are the only international side with a winning record against every opponent.
