Justin\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><strong>Tuck is also looking forward to learning new lessons in the finance big leagues.<\/strong><strong>&#8221; At places like Goldman &#8230; they have brilliant people there,&#8221; he says. &#8220;All I need to do is step in the door and be willing to listen, be willing to embrace the culture, be willing to accept the challenge. A career that spanned more than a decade saw Tuck act as one of the best pass rushers in the game.Originally a Notre Dame product, Tuck ended his career following the 2015 season having recorded 66.5 sacks. He joins the likes of President Donald Trump,\u00a0American business magnate Elon Musk and billionaire economist Warren Buffett to have graduated from the school.<\/strong><strong>In and of itself, that\u2019s an amazing accomplishment. But it gets better. Later in July, Tuck will begin a career at\u00a0Goldman Sachs as a vice president in the private wealth management division. How prestigious of a job is this? Only three percent of the 300,000 annual applicants ultimately get hired by the firm.<\/strong><strong>Having earned $40 million during his NFL career while playing on the game\u2019s grandest of stages, one might think Tuck isn\u2019t feeling pressure entering his new career. At the very least, this new job will take up less of a physical toll on the 35-year-old Alabama native.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"stb-flexvertical\" data-id=\"100\" data-m=\"{&quot;i&quot;:100,&quot;p&quot;:88,&quot;n&quot;:&quot;sharingtoolbar&quot;,&quot;y&quot;:6,&quot;o&quot;:2}\">\n<div class=\"stb-flex \" data-stickyviews=\"4\" data-stickytopmargin=\"20\">\n<div class=\"sharingtb\">\n<div class=\"stb-bsb\" data-aop=\"sharingtoolbar_social\" data-id=\"101\" data-m=\"{&quot;i&quot;:101,&quot;p&quot;:100,&quot;n&quot;:&quot;socialtoolbar&quot;,&quot;y&quot;:8,&quot;o&quot;:1}\">\n<div class=\"stb-box\">\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15816\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Justin-Tuck-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Justin-Tuck-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Justin-Tuck-768x403.jpg 768w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Justin-Tuck.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"group-container \">\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><strong>Speaking on a panel at <a class=\"inline_asset\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whartonnewyork18.com\/\">Wharton&#8217;s Global Forum<\/a> in New York City recently, Tuck attributed his achievements in both football and business to one habit: preparation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;My success in that Super Bowl was just being prepared,&#8221; Tuck says.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;I mean, you&#8217;re foolish if you go into that game and you haven&#8217;t done all of your film work, all of your practice, ate the right things and so on.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"bx-campaign-731382\" class=\"bxc bx-base bx-custom bx-active-step-1 bx-campaign-731382 bx-brand-7132 bx-width-full bx-type-agilityzone bx-has-close-x-1 bx-impress\">\n<div class=\"bx-slab\">\n<div class=\"bx-align\">\n<div id=\"bx-creative-731382\" class=\"bx-creative bx-creative-731382\">\n<div class=\"bx-wrap\">\n<div id=\"bx-step-731382-1\" class=\"bx-step bx-step-1 bx-active-step bx-step-gjWMJ9D bx-step-731382-1 bx-tail-placement-hidden\" data-close-placement=\"\">\n<form id=\"bx-form-731382-step-1\" action=\"https:\/\/api.bounceexchange.com\/capture\/submit\" method=\"post\">\n<div id=\"bx-group-731382-0ZFGlVv\" class=\"bx-group bx-group-custom bx-group-731382-0ZFGlVv bx-group-0ZFGlVv\"><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">&#8220;My successes at Wharton came when I was prepared,&#8221; says Tuck.<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/form>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Not being prepared for an economics test \u2014 you normally don&#8217;t do well on that,&#8221; he says with a laugh. &#8220;And I have some examples for you guys.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"group-container \">\n<div class=\"widget\"><strong style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">And Tuck believes his future success at Goldman Sachs will come from preparation.<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"group\">\n<p><strong>That&#8217;s because preparation helps alleviate some of the pressure \u2014 something Tuck learned on the field. Playing in the Super Bowl, &#8220;The people that could go out on that field and play it just like it was any other game are the ones that go out and do well,&#8221; he explains.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So now that the stakes are higher than ever, Tuck plans to be prepared.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>At the NFL level, &#8220;not being prepared means Tom Brady throws 400 yards against you,&#8221; he says, referencing the Patriots quarterback. &#8220;Not being prepared at a place like Goldman Sachs means that some of your trusted clients are losing money.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuck takes that seriously. After growing up in a rural community in<a class=\"inline_asset\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nj.com\/giants\/roadtrip\/index.ssf\/2008\/01\/ny_giants_justin_tuck_has_root.html\">small town in Alabama<\/a>, he says he feels a responsibility to make the most of every opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;No one expected Justin Tuck from Kellyton, Alabama to go to Notre Dame, set records. Go to the NFL, set records. Translate from that and go to Wharton? Now Goldman?&#8221; Tuck asks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;With all that is a tremendous responsibility that I put on myself to make sure that I am getting myself ready.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Tuck played <a title=\"High school football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_school_football\">high school football<\/a> in Alabama at Central Coosa County. He played for legendary coach Andrew Slome. Growing up, Tuck&#8217;s favorite football teams were the <a title=\"San Francisco 49ers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Francisco_49ers\">San Francisco 49ers<\/a><sup id=\"cite_ref-espnchat_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> and the <a title=\"Dallas Cowboys\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dallas_Cowboys\">Dallas Cowboys<\/a>,\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-ign05_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>but his favorite sport was <a title=\"Basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basketball\">basketball<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-dyk_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Although he began playing football in the seventh grade, Justin only began to take it seriously in his freshman year of high school where he originally started out as a <a title=\"Quarterback\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quarterback\">quarterback\u00a0<\/a>before changing positions to <a title=\"Tight end\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tight_end\">tight end<\/a> and defensive end.<sup id=\"cite_ref-dyk_3-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> His accolades include earning Alabama Class 4A Player of the Year as a senior in 2000,<sup id=\"cite_ref-usa_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> as well as <a title=\"Letterman (sports)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Letterman_(sports)\">lettering<\/a> in football at both <a title=\"Linebacker\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Linebacker\">linebacker<\/a> and tight end.<sup id=\"cite_ref-usa_4-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> For his career at Central-Coosa, Tuck recorded 492 <a title=\"Tackle (football move)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tackle_(football_move)\">tackles<\/a> with 37 <a title=\"Quarterback sack\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quarterback_sack\">sacks<\/a>, 26 forced <a title=\"Fumble\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fumble\">fumbles<\/a>, and 17 fumble recoveries.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-usa_4-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>As a tight end, Tuck had 115 <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Reception (American football)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reception_(American_football)\">catches<\/a> for 2,106 yards and 17 <a title=\"Touchdown\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Touchdown\">touchdowns<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-usa_4-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Subsequently, Tuck also won two state championships as a member of the <a title=\"Basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basketball#High_school_basketball\">high school basketball<\/a> team.<sup id=\"cite_ref-dyk_3-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Tuck played for Legendary coach Andrew Slome<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuck received an athletic scholarship to attend the <a title=\"University of Notre Dame\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Notre_Dame\">University of Notre Dame<\/a>, where he played for the <a title=\"Notre Dame Fighting Irish football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_football\">Notre Dame Fighting Irish football<\/a> team from 2001 to 2004. After <a title=\"Redshirt (college sports)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Redshirt_(college_sports)\">redshirting<\/a> his 2001 freshman year,<sup id=\"cite_ref-scout_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Tuck played sparingly in his sophomore season. Playing only 180 minutes for the season, Tuck recorded his first collegiate sack against <a title=\"2001 Michigan State Spartans football team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2001_Michigan_State_Spartans_football_team\">Michigan State<\/a>. Despite his limited playing time and one start against <a title=\"2001 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2001_Rutgers_Scarlet_Knights_football_team\">Rutgers<\/a>, Tuck was named a third-team freshman <a title=\"All-America\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-America#Collegiate_sports\">All-American<\/a> by <i><a title=\"Sporting News\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sporting_News\">The Sporting News<\/a><\/i>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-nd_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Justin_Tuck#cite_note-nd-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup> Tuck increased his production in his final two seasons at Notre Dame. In 2003, he finished the season with 13.5 sacks, 19 tackles for a loss and three forced fumbles before suffering a knee injury against <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"2003 Syracuse Orange football team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2003_Syracuse_Orange_football_team\">Syracuse<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-scout_5-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Tuck frequently encountered double-team coverage in 2004. With the return of teammate <a title=\"Osi Umenyiora\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Osi_Umenyiora\">Osi Umenyiora<\/a>, Tuck hoped to see fewer double teams than he did during the end of the 2008 season.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-15821\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/j-wharton-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/j-wharton-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/j-wharton-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/j-wharton.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Tuck played very well in the season opener against the <a title=\"2009 Washington Redskins season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2009_Washington_Redskins_season\">Washington Redskins<\/a> on September 13, 2009. Tuck recorded two tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and a pass deflection, helping the Giants win by a score of 23\u201317. After the game, Tuck was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week. Tuck sustained an injured left shoulder when he was tripped by a Cowboys&#8217; lineman <a title=\"Flozell Adams\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flozell_Adams\">Flozell Adams<\/a> in September, which affected his play for the rest of the 2009 season. He ended the season with 60 tackles, six sacks, six forced fumbles, and eight pass deflections. For his efforts in the 2009 season, Tuck was voted an alternate in the 2010 Pro Bowl.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuck continued to perform at a high level throughout the 2010 season and, along with Osi Umenyiora, proved why New York&#8217;s pair of defensive ends were among the most feared in the league.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuck recorded career highs with 76 total tackles and six forced fumbles. In addition, he finished the season with 11.5 sacks, a half a sack shy of tying his career best 12 sacks from 2008. Tuck&#8217;s greatest individual efforts came in games against the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles. In Week 4, against Chicago, Tuck accounted for three of the defense&#8217;s 10 total sacks, and had a forced fumble in a game the Giants won 17\u20133. In Week 15, against Philadelphia, Tuck had 1.5 sacks in a losing effort to the Eagles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Giants finished with a 10\u20136 record and missed the playoffs after losses to the Eagles, who won the NFC East, as well as the eventual <a title=\"Super Bowl XLV\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Super_Bowl_XLV\">Super Bowl<\/a> Champion\u00a0<a title=\"Green Bay Packers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Green_Bay_Packers\">Green Bay Packers<\/a>. Tuck was named as an alternate to the 2011 Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams. He started in only 11 games. He had 26 tackles and five sacks in the regular season. However, in the postseason he played in all four of the Giants games and had 3.5 sacks, two of which came in Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants went on to win <a title=\"Super Bowl XLVI\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Super_Bowl_XLVI\">Super Bowl XLVI<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-36\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> It was Tuck&#8217;s second Super Bowl ring in five years. Many believed that Tuck was a primary candidate for Super Bowl MVP because of his performance in the game, but quarterback <a title=\"Eli Manning\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eli_Manning\">Eli Manning<\/a> won the MVP just like in Super Bowl XLII. Tuck said he signed the deal because the deal that the New York Giants offered was &#8220;disrespectful.&#8221; Tuck still respects the players on the Giants (<a title=\"Victor Cruz (American football)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Victor_Cruz_(American_football)\">Victor Cruz<\/a> and <a title=\"Eli Manning\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eli_Manning\">Eli Manning<\/a>) as brothers and still keeps up with his former teammates.<sup id=\"cite_ref-37\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On October 15, 2015, Tuck was placed on the team&#8217;s injured reserve due to a chest injury.<sup id=\"cite_ref-38\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span id=\"Retirement\" class=\"mw-headline\">Retirement<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Tuck announced his retirement from professional football on February 1, 2016 after 11 seasons.<sup id=\"cite_ref-39\" He exchanged a game-worn football jersey for a game-used <a title=\"Hockey stick\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hockey_stick\">hockey stick<\/a> with <a title=\"New York Rangers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Rangers\">New York Rangers<\/a> captain <a title=\"Jarom\u00edr J\u00e1gr\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jarom%C3%ADr_J%C3%A1gr\">Jarom\u00edr J\u00e1gr<\/a>. After only his second <a title=\"Ice hockey\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ice_hockey\">ice hockey<\/a> game, Tuck quipped &#8220;I am hooked. It&#8217;s football on ice.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-hockey_46-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He is a Rangers fan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuck has participated in various philanthropic causes. Tuck and Giants teammate <a title=\"Michael Strahan\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michael_Strahan\">Michael Strahan<\/a> teamed up with <a title=\"Nike, Inc.\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nike,_Inc.\">Nike<\/a> to design their own exclusive pair of sneakers for ID studio in <a title=\"New York City\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_City\">New York City<\/a>. All proceeds of the sneakers were donated to Nike&#8217;s <a class=\"external text\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20080404005925\/http:\/\/www.letmeplay.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Let Me Play<\/a> global campaign.
