It was just crazy. It happened so fast.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-Broken_30-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> It was announced that Irving would require surgery on July 18 to repair the hand.<sup id=\"cite_ref-31\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-32\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>At the start of the <a title=\"2012\u201313 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012%E2%80%9313_NBA_season\">2012\u201313 NBA season<\/a>, Irving injured his index finger in a loss to the <a title=\"2012\u201313 Dallas Mavericks season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012%E2%80%9313_Dallas_Mavericks_season\">Dallas Mavericks<\/a>. Despite a shaky start to the season in which they fell to a record of 5-7 after a loss on November 22 to Toronto, the Cavaliers went on an eight-game winning streak with the help of Irving as he averaged 19.3 points per game over the streak, including a 37-point game against the New York Knicks on December 4.<sup id=\"cite_ref-br_46-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Following their loss on December 11 to Oklahoma City which ended their streak, the Cavaliers went on to win just five more games in December as they finished 2014 with a record of 18-14. All three of the newly dubbed &#8220;Big Three&#8221; missed time during December, contributing to team&#8217;s inconsistency and mediocre play despite the high expectations. The Cavaliers began their 2015 schedule on January 2 as they snapped a three-game losing streak with the help of Irving. He scored 23 points, and with Love&#8217;s 27, the Cavaliers defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 91-87.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-47\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> However, in a season-low game for Irving the following game against Dallas on January 4, he scored just six points before leaving the game in the third quarter with lower back tightness, as the Cavaliers went on to lose, 90-109.<sup id=\"cite_ref-48\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He subsequently missed the next game against Philadelphia before returning to action on January 7 against Houston to tie a then first half career high of 23 points.
