Billionaire money manager Bruce Sherman will be a majority share owner.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Derek Sanderson Jeter\u00a0is an American former professional <a title=\"Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baseball\">baseball<\/a> <a title=\"Shortstop\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shortstop\">shortstop\u00a0<\/a>and the incoming CEO and part owner of the <a title=\"Miami Marlins\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miami_Marlins\">Miami Marlins<\/a>. Jeter played played 20 seasons in <a title=\"Major League Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball\">Major League Baseball<\/a>(MLB) for the <a title=\"New York Yankees\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Yankees\">New York Yankees<\/a>. A five-time <a title=\"World Series\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/World_Series\">World Series<\/a> champion, Jeter is regarded as a central figure of the Yankees&#8217; success of the late 1990s and early 2000s for his hitting, base running, fielding, and leadership. In 2017, the Yankees <a title=\"List of Major League Baseball retired numbers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_retired_numbers\">retired<\/a> his uniform number 2.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-header\">\n<div class=\"entry-content entry-content-read-more\">\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s a deal,\u201d the source said. \u201cThe ink is dry.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>As principal owner, Sherman is investing several hundred million in the acquisition, with Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, and other partners investing a substantial amount as well, to exceed a total of several hundred million dollars in their total investment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sherman, who lives in Naples, Fla., did not know Jeter until he found out the retired Yankee was bidding for the Marlins and inquired months ago about joining his group, sources said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the past, Sherman had unsuccessfully bid for a minor league baseball team.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the following months, Sherman outlasted other billionaire Jeter backers such as Richard Chaifetz and Quogue Capital Founder Wayne Rothbaum, who eventually left Jeter and formed his own rival Marlins bidding group with Tagg Romney, the source said.
