Two of Judge&#8217;s homers were longer than any\u00a0<span id=\"token-04E30A2A129E31A64038C\" class=\"token token-hyperLink\"><a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/video\/topic\/73955164\">Statcast\u2122<\/a><\/span> has tracked since its inception in 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"full-text\">\n<div class=\"default-styles\">\n<p><strong>The Yankees rookie outlasted some of the game&#8217;s most elite sluggers, including last year&#8217;s Derby winner <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/519317\/giancarlo-stanton\">Giancarlo Stanton<\/a>, his New York teammate <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/596142\/gary-sanchez\">Gary Sanchez<\/a>, the Marlins&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/571506\/justin-bour\">Justin Bour<\/a>, the Rockies&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/453568\/charlie-blackmon\">Charlie Blackmon<\/a>, the Dodgers&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/641355\/cody-bellinger\">Cody Bellinger\u00a0<\/a>and the Royals&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/m.mlb.com\/player\/519058\/mike-moustakas\">Mike Moustakas<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure class=\"poster has-video \"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12940\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Aaron_Judge_on_September_8_2016.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"210\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aaron James Judge (born April 26, 1992) is an American professional <a title=\"Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baseball\">baseball<\/a> <a title=\"Outfielder\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Outfielder\">outfielder<\/a> for the <a title=\"New York Yankees\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_Yankees\">New York Yankees<\/a> of\u00a0<a title=\"Major League Baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball\">Major League Baseball<\/a> (MLB). Judge played <a title=\"College baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/College_baseball\">college baseball<\/a> at <a title=\"California State University, Fresno\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/California_State_University,_Fresno\">Fresno State<\/a>, and was drafted by the Yankees in the first round of the <a title=\"2013 Major League Baseball draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Major_League_Baseball_draft\">2013 MLB draft<\/a>. He made his MLB debut in 2016. Judge was named an <a title=\"All-star\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-star\">All-Star<\/a> in 2017 and won the\u00a0<a title=\"Home Run Derby (Major League Baseball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Home_Run_Derby_(Major_League_Baseball)\">Home Run Derby<\/a>. He broke the Yankees&#8217; record for home runs by a rookie (besting <a title=\"Joe DiMaggio\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_DiMaggio\">Joe DiMaggio&#8217;s<\/a> 29 with 30 before the All-Star break) and won the <a title=\"American League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_League\">American League<\/a>&#8216;s <a title=\"Major League Baseball Rookie of the Month Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball_Rookie_of_the_Month_Award\">Rookie of the Month Awards<\/a> for April, May and June 2017, as well as the American League&#8217;s <a title=\"Major League Baseball Player of the Month Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Major_League_Baseball_Player_of_the_Month_Award\">Player of the Month Award<\/a> in June 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"toc\" class=\"toc\">\n<p><strong>Judge was born and raised in <a title=\"Linden, California\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Linden,_California\">Linden, California<\/a> and was adopted the day after he was born by Patty and Wayne Judge, who both worked as teachers. When he was 10 years old, his parents told him that he was adopted; he recalls, &#8220;I knew I didn&#8217;t look like them.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-autogenerated1_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He telephones his parents every day.<sup id=\"cite_ref-autogenerated1_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He has an older brother, John, who was also adopted.<sup id=\"cite_ref-nypost_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Judge attended Linden High School, where he was a three-sport star. He played as a <a title=\"Pitcher\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pitcher\">pitcher<\/a> (9-3, 0.65 ERA, 65K) and<a title=\"First baseman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/First_baseman\">first baseman<\/a> (.500 AVG, 7 HR, 32 RBI) for the baseball team, a <a title=\"Wide receiver\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wide_receiver\">wide receiver<\/a> (54 REC, 969 YDS, 17 TD) for the<a title=\"High school football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_school_football\">football<\/a> team, and an &#8220;all-state&#8221; <a title=\"Center (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Center_(basketball)\">center<\/a> (18.2 PTS, 12.8 REBS) for the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"High school basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High_school_basketball\">basketball<\/a> team.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>He set a school record for <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Touchdowns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Touchdowns\">touchdowns<\/a> (17) in football and led the team in <a title=\"Points per game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Points_per_game\">points per game<\/a> (18.2) in basketball. In baseball, he was part of the Linden High School team that made the <a title=\"California Interscholastic Federation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/California_Interscholastic_Federation\">California Interscholastic Federation<\/a> Division III playoffs.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12941\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/592450-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/592450-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/592450.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Various colleges recruited Judge to play <a title=\"Tight end\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tight_end\">tight end<\/a> in <a title=\"College football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/College_football\">football<\/a>, including <a title=\"Notre Dame Fighting Irish football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Notre_Dame_Fighting_Irish_football\">Notre Dame<\/a>, <a title=\"Stanford Cardinal football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stanford_Cardinal_football\">Stanford<\/a>, and <a title=\"UCLA Bruins football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/UCLA_Bruins_football\">UCLA<\/a>, but he preferred baseball. The <a title=\"Oakland Athletics\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oakland_Athletics\">Oakland Athletics<\/a> selected him in the 31st round of the <a title=\"2010 Major League Baseball draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2010_Major_League_Baseball_draft\">2010 Major League Baseball draft<\/a>, but he opted to enroll at <a title=\"California State University, Fresno\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/California_State_University,_Fresno\">California State University, Fresno<\/a> (Fresno State), to play for the <a title=\"Fresno State Bulldogs baseball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fresno_State_Bulldogs_baseball\">Fresno State Bulldogs baseball<\/a> team in the <a title=\"Western Athletic Conference\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_Athletic_Conference\">Western Athletic Conference<\/a> (WAC). <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Louisville Slugger\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisville_Slugger\">Louisville Slugger<\/a> named him a Freshman <a title=\"All-America\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-America\">All-American<\/a>. He won the 2012 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby.<sup id=\"cite_ref-milb_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In his junior year, Judge led the Bulldogs in <a title=\"Home run\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Home_run\">home runs<\/a>, <a title=\"Double (baseball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Double_(baseball)\">doubles<\/a>, and <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Runs batted in\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Runs_batted_in\">runs batted in<\/a> (RBIs).<sup id=\"cite_ref-nydn_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Judge was named to the all-conference team in all three of his seasons for the Bulldogs\u2014in the WAC in his first two seasons, and the <a title=\"Mountain West Conference\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mountain_West_Conference\">Mountain West Conference<\/a> (MW) as a junior (the Bulldogs <a title=\"2010\u201313 Mountain West Conference realignment\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2010%E2%80%9313_Mountain_West_Conference_realignment\">joined the MW<\/a> in July 2012, between his sophomore and junior seasons).<sup id=\"cite_ref-nydn_6-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Yankees drafted Judge in the first round of the <a title=\"2013 Major League Baseball draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Major_League_Baseball_draft\">2013 Major League Baseball draft<\/a> with the 32nd overall selection.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-8\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Judge signed with the Yankees, receiving a $1.8\u00a0million <a title=\"Signing bonus\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Signing_bonus\">signing bonus<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-9\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He tore a <a title=\"Quadriceps femoris muscle\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quadriceps_femoris_muscle\">quadriceps femoris muscle<\/a> while participating in a <a title=\"Base running\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Base_running\">base running<\/a> drill, which kept him out of the 2013 season.<sup id=\"cite_ref-milb_5-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He made his professional debut with the <a title=\"Charleston RiverDogs\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charleston_RiverDogs\">Charleston RiverDogs<\/a> of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Class A (baseball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Class_A_(baseball)\">Class A<\/a> <a title=\"South Atlantic League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Atlantic_League\">South Atlantic League<\/a> in 2014.<sup id=\"cite_ref-milb_5-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He had a .333 <a title=\"Batting average\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Batting_average\">batting average<\/a>, .428 <a title=\"On-base percentage\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/On-base_percentage\">on-base percentage<\/a> (OBP), .530 <a title=\"Slugging percentage\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slugging_percentage\">slugging percentage<\/a> (SLG), and hit nine home runs with 45 RBIs in 65 games for Charleston. The Yankees promoted him to the <a title=\"Tampa Yankees\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tampa_Yankees\">Tampa Yankees<\/a> of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Class A-Advanced\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Class_A-Advanced\">Class A-Advanced<\/a> <a title=\"Florida State League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Florida_State_League\">Florida State League<\/a> during the season, where he hit .283 with a .411 OBP, .442 SLG, eight home runs, and 33 RBIs in 66 games for Tampa.<sup id=\"cite_ref-nydn_6-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb tright\">\n<div class=\"thumbinner\">\n<p><strong><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">Judge during Yankees&#8217; spring training in 2015<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12943\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Aaron_Judge_spring_training_2015_osceola-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/>The Yankees invited Judge to <a title=\"Spring training\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Spring_training\">spring training<\/a> as a non-roster player in 2015.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Judge began the 2015 season with the <a title=\"Trenton Thunder\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trenton_Thunder\">Trenton Thunder<\/a> of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Class AA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Class_AA\">Class AA<\/a> <a title=\"Eastern League (baseball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_League_(baseball)\">Eastern League<\/a>.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-12\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> After Judge batted .284 with a .350 OBP and 12 home runs in 63 games for Trenton, the Yankees promoted Judge to the <a title=\"Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre_RailRiders\">Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders<\/a> of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Class AAA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Class_AAA\">Class AAA<\/a> <a title=\"International League\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_League\">International League<\/a> in June.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-13\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>He was chosen to represent the Yankees at the 2015 <a title=\"All-Star Futures Game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-Star_Futures_Game\">All-Star Futures Game<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-14\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> The Yankees decided not to include Judge in their <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"September call-up\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/September_call-up\">September call-ups<\/a>.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-15\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Judge batted .224 with eight home runs in 61 games for Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre.<sup id=\"cite_ref-16\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> The Yankees invited Judge to spring training in 2016, and he began the season with Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre. Judge was named to the International League All-Star Team in 2016, but did not play in the <a title=\"Triple-A All-Star Game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triple-A_All-Star_Game\">2016 Triple-A All-Star Game<\/a> after he spent on a month of the disabled list due to a knee sprain.<sup id=\"cite_ref-17\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-18\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In 93 games for the RailRiders, Judge had a .270 batting average, 19 home runs, and 65 RBIs.<sup id=\"cite_ref-19\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Judge made his MLB debut on August 13, 2016, starting in right field against the <a title=\"2016 Tampa Bay Rays season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_Tampa_Bay_Rays_season\">Tampa Bay Rays<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-20\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In his first at-bat, Judge hit a home run off <a title=\"Matt Andriese\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Matt_Andriese\">Matt Andriese<\/a>; the previous batter, <a title=\"Tyler Austin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tyler_Austin\">Tyler Austin<\/a>, also making his MLB debut, had done the same. This marked the first time that two teammates had hit home runs in their first career at bats in the same game.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-21\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Judge also hit a home run in his second MLB game. In May, he had a .347 batting average, seven home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .441 OBP in 26 games.<sup id=\"cite_ref-37\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On June 10, Judge hit a home run that had an exit velocity of 121.1 miles per hour (194.9\u00a0km\/h), again setting a new record for the hardest ever measured by\u00a0<a title=\"Statcast\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Statcast\">Statcast<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0The following day, Judge went 4-for-4 with two home runs, one of which traveled 495 feet (151\u00a0m), which was the longest in MLB in the 2017 season.<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px; line-height: 20px;\">\u00a0<\/span>On June 12, Judge was named the American League Player of the Week.
