In 2015, James scored 32 points in the Las Vegas Summer League championship against the San Antonio Spurs.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Two years after scoring 32 points in the championship game of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with the Phoenix Suns, point guard Mike James has earned another opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Lamar University product went undrafted in 2012 after scoring 17.1 points and dishing out 1.9 assists per game in 56 games at the Beaumont, Texas, institution. He took his talents overseas where he has played for the past five seasons with teams in Croatia, Israel, Italy, Spain and Greece.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong>Most recently, the 6-foot-1 James finished the 2016-17 season in Greece with the team Panathinaikos. He helped it win both the Greek Basket League and Greek Cup while averaging 13.1 points and three assists per game.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12914\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/ryanmike-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/ryanmike-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/ryanmike.jpg 756w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>After signing his first NBA contract on Monday, James was happy to join a familiar team that begins Summer League play on Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s fun to come to an organization where you already know everybody and everybody\u2019s like \u2018How have you been?\u2019 rather than \u2018Where you from?\u2019 so it\u2019s cool that way,\u201d said James, who started his collegiate career in Eastern Arizona.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During his first stint with the Suns in 2015, James averaged 12.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and started five of the seven NBA Summer League games in which he played. His performance wasn\u2019t enough to win a roster spot and James went back overseas to continue his international career. He played the 2015-2016 season in Liga ACB, Spain\u2019s top-tier league with Baskonia.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This time around, James won\u2019t have to go back overseas, and could have an impact on a young Suns team that is building for the future.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12918\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0-1080x720.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/usa_today_8709321.0.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>As the oldest player on the Suns\u2019 Summer League roster, James, who will turn 27 in August, said his experience and knowledge will be valuable to pass down to younger players. He showed that on Wednesday, playing with the young core group of Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson, Marquese Chriss and Derrick Jones Jr. during their end-of-practice scrimmage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHe kind of knows the environment and I think he\u2019s accepted the culture that were trying to build here through Coach Watson,\u201d said Suns Summer League Coach Marlon Garnett. \u201cIt\u2019s big to have somebody experienced that\u2019s playing the point guard position so that can kind of permeate to the rest of the guys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After only two days, James has already earned the approval of the younger players on the roster. Jones is one of those players. Jones came to the Suns from their D-League affiliate, the Northern Arizona Suns, last year and even though he has a year in the league under his belt, he\u2019s never played in the Summer League before. With an older guy like James on the team, Jones knows he\u2019ll have someone to lean on for advice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cHe\u2019s just that point guard that he\u2019s going to just help us out because he\u2019s played in summer leagues before, and he played overseas and he has all the accolades,\u201d Jones said. \u201cWe can just sit back and use all the resources we have.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Suns kick off their Summer League schedule with a matchup against the Sacramento Kings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12919\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/images-mike-j.-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/images-mike-j.-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/images-mike-j..jpg 318w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Michael Perry &#8220;Mike&#8221; James (born August 18, 1990) is an American professional <a title=\"Basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Basketball\">basketball<\/a> player for the\u00a0<a title=\"Phoenix Suns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phoenix_Suns\">Phoenix Suns<\/a> of the <a title=\"National Basketball Association\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Basketball_Association\">National Basketball Association<\/a> (NBA). He was a high school basketball standout playing for\u00a0<a title=\"Grant High School (Portland, Oregon)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grant_High_School_(Portland,_Oregon)\">Grant High School<\/a> in Portland, and played <a title=\"College basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/College_basketball\">college basketball<\/a> for <a title=\"Eastern Arizona College\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_Arizona_College\">Eastern Arizona College<\/a> and <a title=\"Lamar University\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lamar_University\">Lamar University<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"toc\" class=\"toc\">\n<p><strong>James, the son of Lisa Behrndt, was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. While in Portland, he played basketball for Grant High School under coach Tony Broadous.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In 2007\u201308, as a senior, he was ranked the No. 3 Player in the state and No. 184 overall.<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals per game.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> The team went on to win the 2008 Oregon state championship.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>James started his college career at <a title=\"Eastern Arizona College\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_Arizona_College\">Eastern Arizona College<\/a>, a national junior college where he played under coach Maurice Leitzke. In his first year, he averaged 20 points per game shooting 42 percent overall, 33.3 percent from three-point range and 78 percent free throws. He was named all-conference and all-region teams as well as being ranked No. 40 best junior college player by Rivals.com.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> As a sophomore, he was the fourth leading scorer in the NJCAA Division I recording 26 points per game. Here he played under coach <a title=\"Steve Roccaforte\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steve_Roccaforte\">Steve Roccaforte<\/a> in 2010\u201311 and under coach <a title=\"Pat Knight\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pat_Knight\">Pat Knight<\/a> for the <a title=\"2011\u201312 Lamar Cardinals basketball team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011%E2%80%9312_Lamar_Cardinals_basketball_team\">2011\u201312<\/a> NCAA season. Playing a little over 18 minutes a game, he averaged 12.5 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals.\u00a0He led the team in scoring, even though he only started two out of twenty-four games for the season.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-5\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He included a 52-point game on January 4, 2011 against Louisiana College, which Lamar Cardinals won 114\u201362,<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> breaking the previous record of 50 set by Mike Oliver in 1980.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar20110105_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In addition, he broke Lamar University&#8217;s Montagne Center record for most points scored in a single game with 52, <a title=\"Field goal (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Field_goal_(basketball)\">field goals<\/a> made with 18, field goal attempts with 35, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Three-pointer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Three-pointer\">three-pointers<\/a> made with 11 and three-pointer attempts with 21.<sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar_1-6\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-lamar20110105_5-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In his senior season (2011\u201312), he averaged 17.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.6 steals per game shooting 45.3 percent overall.<sup id=\"cite_ref-espn_3-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> One notable game of his was against the 2012 NCAA champion University of Kentucky, where he scored 29 points. His senior season ended in the first round of the <a title=\"2012 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_NCAA_Division_I_Men%27s_Basketball_Tournament\">2012 NCAA Tournament<\/a> with a loss against Vermont.<sup id=\"cite_ref-espn_3-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> By the end of his season, he was named All-Southland First Team, Southland Tournament MVP and Southland Conference Player of the Week three times in four weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In August 2012, James signed with <a title=\"KK Zagreb\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/KK_Zagreb\">KK Zagreb<\/a> of Croatia for the 2012\u201313 season.<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12922\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mike-James-osfp-pao-oaka-finals-basket-league-625x470-300x226.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mike-James-osfp-pao-oaka-finals-basket-league-625x470-300x226.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Mike-James-osfp-pao-oaka-finals-basket-league-625x470.jpg 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>December 2012, he left Zagreb.
