I felt so confident out there, it was great.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<aside class=\"bg-related bg-related--wide\">\n<div class=\"bg-related__body\">\n<div class=\"bg-related__text\">\n<h4 class=\"bg-related__heading\"><strong>US Open scoreboard<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p><strong>Matsuyama did his best to back-door his way into contention, shooting 6-under 66 to shoot up the leaderboard after starting the day six strokes off the lead. Matsuyama birdied No. 18 to close within one shot of Koepka with five holes to play, but Koepka turned on the afterburners late Sunday. He carded three straight birdies on Nos. 14-16 to create plenty of distance between himself and the rest of the field.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div><strong>\u201cYou\u2019ve got to tip your cap,\u201d said Harman, who tied Matsuyama for second at 12-under. \u201cHe went and won the golf tournament on the back nine.\u201d<\/strong><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"line-height: inherit;\">Erin Hills had been wide open all tournament long, with light winds and soft conditions leading to new records for birdies, low rounds, and players under par. Koepka\u2019s 16-under tied Rory McIlroy for the lowest score in relation to par in US Open history, and Koepka is just the third US Open winner to finish double digits below par (Tiger Woods). This year was also the first time that the runner-up finished double digits below par (the top seven on this year\u2019s leaderboard all did so).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But Erin Hills, hosting its first major championship, finally played like a US Open course on Sunday, with 20-25 mile per hour winds wreaking havoc on the tee box and playing like the difficult links-style course that the United States Golf Association envisioned when it booked the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>One by one the contenders dropped off Sunday afternoon. Harman, the leader after the third round, only carded one birdie on the front and then fell out of contention with back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13. He attended <a title=\"Cardinal Newman High School (West Palm Beach, Florida)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cardinal_Newman_High_School_(West_Palm_Beach,_Florida)\">Cardinal Newman High School<\/a>. He played college golf at <a title=\"Florida State University\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Florida_State_University\">Florida State University<\/a>, where he won three events and was a three-time <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"All-American\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-American\">All-American<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> He qualified for the <a title=\"2012 U.S. Open (golf)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_U.S._Open_(golf)\">2012 U.S. Open\u00a0<\/a>while still an amateur, but missed the cut.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In the summer of 2012, Koepka turned professional and began playing on the <a title=\"Challenge Tour\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Challenge_Tour\">Challenge Tour<\/a> in Europe. He won his first title in September at the <a title=\"Challenge de Catalunya\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Challenge_de_Catalunya\">Challenge de Catalunya<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> In 2013 he had his second victory on the Challenge Tour, winning the 2013 <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Montecchia Golf Open\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Montecchia_Golf_Open\">Montecchia Golf Open<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0He followed this a month later with his third win, the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Fred Olsen Challenge de Espa\u00f1a\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fred_Olsen_Challenge_de_Espa%C3%B1a\">Fred Olsen Challenge de Espa\u00f1a<\/a>, where he set the tournament record, 260 (\u221224), and won by a record 10 strokes.<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Three weeks later he had his third win of the year at the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Scottish Hydro Challenge\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scottish_Hydro_Challenge\">Scottish Hydro Challenge<\/a>. With those three wins, he earned his European Tour card for the remainder of the 2013 season and for the full 2014 season.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> The day after his third Challenge Tour win of 2013, Koepka qualified for the <a title=\"2013 Open Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Open_Championship\">2013 Open Championship<\/a>. Koepka made his debut as a member of the European Tour (he played in three events prior to promotion to membership) at the <a title=\"Scottish Open (golf)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scottish_Open_(golf)\">Scottish Open<\/a>, finishing T12.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In his first event of the <a title=\"2014 PGA Tour\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2014_PGA_Tour\">2014 PGA Tour<\/a>, Koepka led after the second and third rounds of the <a title=\"Frys.com Open\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frys.com_Open\">Frys.com Open<\/a>. He finished tied for third. At the <a title=\"2014 U.S. Open (golf)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2014_U.S._Open_(golf)\">U.S. Open<\/a>, he collected a fourth-place finish, which earned him his PGA Tour card for the 2014\u201315 season and his first Masters invitation. Later he ended 15th at the <a title=\"PGA Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PGA_Championship\">PGA Championship<\/a>. He was nominated for the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"PGA Tour Rookie of the Year\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/PGA_Tour_Rookie_of_the_Year\">PGA Tour Rookie of the Year<\/a> award. On the <a title=\"2014 European Tour\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2014_European_Tour\">2014 European Tour<\/a>, Koepka won the <a title=\"Turkish Airlines Open\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Turkish_Airlines_Open\">Turkish Airlines Open<\/a> and finished third at the <a title=\"Dubai Desert Classic\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dubai_Desert_Classic\">Dubai Desert Classic<\/a> and <a title=\"Omega European Masters\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Omega_European_Masters\">Omega European Masters<\/a>, and ninth at the <a title=\"Alfred Dunhill Links Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alfred_Dunhill_Links_Championship\">Alfred Dunhill Links Championship<\/a>. At the <a title=\"2015 Open Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2015_Open_Championship\">2015 Open Championship<\/a>, Koepka improved every day and a final round 68 vaulted him into a tie for 10th at the <a title=\"Old Course at St Andrews\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Course_at_St_Andrews\">Old Course at St Andrews<\/a>. The very next week, Koepka was tied for fourth after 54 holes at the<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"RBC Canadian Open\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/RBC_Canadian_Open\">RBC Canadian Open<\/a> but a final round 74 pushed him down to a tie for 18th at the <a title=\"Glen Abbey Golf Course\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glen_Abbey_Golf_Course\">Glen Abbey Golf Course<\/a>. He then tied for 6th at the <a title=\"2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2015_WGC-Bridgestone_Invitational\">2015 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational<\/a> and tied for 5th at the <a title=\"2015 PGA Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2015_PGA_Championship\">2015 PGA Championship<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2015, Koepka chose to give up his European Tour membership.<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2017, Koepka won his first major championship by claiming the <a title=\"2017 U.S. Open (golf)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2017_U.S._Open_(golf)\">U.S. Open<\/a> title at <a title=\"Erin Hills\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Erin_Hills\">Erin Hills<\/a>.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-usopen_2-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup> Koepka&#8217;s win tied him for the record of the lowest U.S. Open score at 16 under (tied with <a title=\"Rory McIlroy\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rory_McIlroy\">Rory McIlroy<\/a>&#8216;s 2011 record).<sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong><span id=\"Personal_life\" class=\"mw-headline\">Personal life<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Koepka&#8217;s brother Chase is also a professional golfer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Koepka was recently in a relationship with professional soccer player <a title=\"Becky Edwards (soccer)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Becky_Edwards_(soccer)\">Becky Edwards<\/a>, but they broke up when Edwards returned to Sweden in 2017 to play professional soccer.
