Klay Thompson is an NBA<\/a> champion twice over following the Golden State Warriors<\/a>‘ 129-120 Game 5 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> on Monday night, and he told ESPN.com’s Zach Lowe<\/a> he’d rather bolster his ring collection in years ahead than stand out for his individual play. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

When discussing Kevin Durant<\/a>‘s arrival and his shift into a role as the Warriors’ No. 3 scorer after operating as Stephen Curry<\/a>‘s sidekick for the past few seasons, Thompson embraced a selfless, team-first mindset.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I don’t feel like I sacrificed at all,” Thompson told Lowe. “I’d rather be a part of something that could leave a legacy. There is more to basketball than getting yours, or being the guy. I hope I do this for a long time for the Warriors.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kevin Durant<\/a> capped his spectacular first season with the Warriors<\/a> by bringing home that coveted NBA<\/a> championship he joined Golden State last July so determined to get, scoring 39 points in a fast-and-furious, Finals-clinching 129-120 victory over LeBron James<\/a> and the Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a> on Monday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stephen Curry<\/a> added 34 points, 10 assists and six rebounds as Golden State closed out its second title in three years after squandering a 3-1 lead a year ago to the Cavs to miss a repeat. That stung ever since, and even Durant understood, because he gave up the same lead to the Warriors a round earlier with Oklahoma City.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We learned from everything we’ve been through,” Curry said during the trophy celebration. “Our perspective, being blessed to play on this stage three years in a row, it’s for these fans, for our organization, for these families. To be back here, bring ol’ Larry back home, I’m just excited to do something special. I’m ready to do it again.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

A year ago, no confetti fell in Oracle Arena. The Cavaliers had won Game 7 to complete an improbable comeback to win the title after being down 3-1, something no team had ever done before in the Finals.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kevin Durant<\/a> bounced as he walked down from the stage on which he\u2019d received his NBA Finals MVP<\/a> trophy. He grinned like a kid as he clutched the prize and emerged from the champagne-soaked locker room, cigar smoke wafting through the air, still grinning, still proudly displaying his trophy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was an NBA<\/a> champion at last, but not just that. He drove this team. He made theGolden State Warriors<\/a> great enough that they could beat a player better than any of them, and the team that had bested them last year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI remember plenty of times throughout my career I continued to just look in the past and look ahead and not stay in the moment,\u201d Durant said. \u201cIn this series I just stayed in the moment. And we did it together. \u2026 You call us a super team, but it\u2019s been a lot of super teams that [haven\u2019t] worked, and we came together and we continued to just believe in each other and we sacrificed and we\u2019re champions now.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
