Since taking their opening bow they have not only engaged and enlightened, but also helped rewrite history regarding Britain\u2019s first black female player.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Using interviews with players and staff up and down Manchester City and Millwall\u2019s ladies\u2019 teams, director Caroline Bryant formed the ground work for the play, eventually written by Sabrina Mahfouz and Hollie McNish. \u201cOne of the first players I interviewed at Manchester City was a goalkeeper for a number of years and right at the end of her career,\u201d Bryant explained.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI asked her how it felt to see these younger players being paid, whereas she had done the same without financial recompense alongside a full-time job. She said: \u2018That\u2019s fine, I\u2019m a pioneer.\u2019 That word pioneer really pulled me in.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fifa.com\/news\/y=2015\/m=4\/news=lily-parr-the-pioneering-star-2593969.html\">Early 20th century icon Lily Parr<\/a> features, as well as Emma Clarke \u2013 a black Liverpudlian playing in Scotland in the 1880s. The latter has in fact transformed since the play\u2019s inception, having inspired research into her history \u2013 having been confused her with team-mate Carrie Boustead.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c[Playing her] has been very moving,\u201d said Tanya-Loretta Dee. \u201cA black footballer at that time, who was a woman \u2013 it\u2019s nuts that that she was allowed to play in the first place. All the discovery that has come about over the last few months has been awesome.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s been great to see the reactions from women\u2019s players who have really connected with the play.
