He is a four-time <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"NBA All-Star\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBA_All-Star\">NBA All-Star<\/a>, and a four-time <a title=\"NBA All-Defensive Team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBA_All-Defensive_Team\">NBA All-Defensive Team<\/a> member. He also led the NBA in <a title=\"Steal (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Steal_(basketball)\">steals<\/a> during the <a title=\"2009\u201310 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2009%E2%80%9310_NBA_season\">2009\u201310 season<\/a>, and assists during the <a title=\"2011\u201312 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2011%E2%80%9312_NBA_season\">2011\u201312<\/a>, <a title=\"2012\u201313 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012%E2%80%9313_NBA_season\">2012\u201313<\/a> and <a title=\"2015\u201316 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2015%E2%80%9316_NBA_season\">2015\u201316<\/a> seasons. He began his professional career with the <a title=\"Boston Celtics\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boston_Celtics\">Boston Celtics<\/a>, winning an <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"NBA championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBA_championship\">NBA championship<\/a> in 2008. He ranks fourth in Celtic history in assists, and third in steals. He briefly played for the <a title=\"Dallas Mavericks\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dallas_Mavericks\">Dallas Mavericks<\/a> during the 2014\u201315 season before joining the Sacramento Kings in 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rondo played two years of <a title=\"College basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/College_basketball\">college basketball<\/a> for the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kentucky_Wildcats_men%27s_basketball_team\">Kentucky Wildcats<\/a> before he was drafted 21st overall by the <a title=\"Phoenix Suns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phoenix_Suns\">Phoenix Suns<\/a> in the <a title=\"2006 NBA draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006_NBA_draft\">2006 NBA draft<\/a>. He was subsequently traded to the Celtics where he played a supporting role during his rookie season. He established himself as the starting point guard for the Celtics during the <a title=\"2007\u201308 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2007%E2%80%9308_NBA_season\">2007\u201308 season<\/a>, helping the franchise record their 17th NBA championship playing alongside <a title=\"List of NBA All-Stars\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_NBA_All-Stars\">All-Stars<\/a> <a title=\"Ray Allen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ray_Allen\">Ray Allen<\/a>, <a title=\"Kevin Garnett\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kevin_Garnett\">Kevin Garnett<\/a> and <a title=\"Paul Pierce\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Pierce\">Paul Pierce<\/a>. His breakout performance came during the <a title=\"2009 NBA Playoffs\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2009_NBA_Playoffs\">2009 NBA Playoffs<\/a>, where he averaged a near <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Triple-double\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triple-double\">triple-double<\/a>, and helped his team take the eventual Eastern Conference champion <a title=\"Orlando Magic\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orlando_Magic\">Orlando Magic<\/a> to seven games in the Conference Semifinals. Rondo is considered to be one of the premier <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Triple-double\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Triple-double\">triple-double<\/a> threats in the NBA. He ranks 12th in NBA history in career regular season triple-doubles (28), \u00a0and fourth in career playoff triple-doubles (10).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rondo was born on February 22, 1986 in <a title=\"Louisville, Kentucky\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisville,_Kentucky\">Louisville, Kentucky<\/a>, to Amber Rondo. He has three siblings: Dymon, William and Anton. He had little contact with his father, who left his family when he was seven years old. To support the family, his mother worked the third shift at <a title=\"Philip Morris USA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philip_Morris_USA\">Philip Morris USA<\/a>, a tobacco company. Rondo was first interested in <a title=\"American football\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_football\">football<\/a>, before his mother steered him towards basketball because she felt that the sport would be less punishing on his skinny frame.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-12105\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/200px-Rondo_at_the_Championship_parade.jpg\" alt=\"200px-Rondo_at_the_Championship_parade\" width=\"200\" height=\"226\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After Rondo became serious about basketball, he attended Louisville&#8217;s <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Eastern High School (Louisville)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eastern_High_School_(Louisville)\">Eastern High School<\/a> for three years. During his <a title=\"Eleventh grade\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eleventh_grade\">junior year<\/a> at Eastern High School, he averaged 27.9 <a title=\"Point (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Point_(basketball)\">points<\/a>, 10.0 <a title=\"Rebound (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rebound_(basketball)\">rebounds<\/a> and 7.5 <a title=\"Assist (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Assist_(basketball)\">assists<\/a> which earned him a spot on the All-State honors and was named the 7th Region Player of the Year. He transferred to Virginia&#8217;s <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Oak Hill Academy (Virginia)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oak_Hill_Academy_(Virginia)\">Oak Hill Academy<\/a> for his <a title=\"Twelfth grade\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twelfth_grade\">senior year<\/a> where he averaged 21.0 <a title=\"Points per game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Points_per_game\">points per game<\/a> (ppg), 3.0 <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Rebounds per game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rebounds_per_game\">rebounds per game<\/a> (rpg) and 12.0 <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Assists per game\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Assists_per_game\">assists per game<\/a> (apg) and finished the 2003\u201304 season with a 38\u20130 record. In his <a title=\"Twelfth grade\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Twelfth_grade\">senior year<\/a> at Oak Hill Academy, Rondo broke <a title=\"Jeff McInnis\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jeff_McInnis\">Jeff McInnis<\/a>&#8216;s single-season school record of 303 assists, while averaging a <a title=\"Double (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Double_(basketball)\">double-double<\/a>. There, he included two efforts of 27 assists and a single-game school record of 31, merely four away from the all-time national record. He also had a 55-point game in <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"High-school\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/High-school\">high-school<\/a>, second highest all-time in Oak Hill Academy, surpassed only by Calvin Duncan with 61. Rondo was named to the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"McDonald's All-American Team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McDonald%27s_All-American_Team\">McDonald&#8217;s All-American Team<\/a> in 2004 and scored a total of 14 points, 4 assists and 4 rebounds in the all-star game. He also participated in the 2004 Jordan Capital Classic game, logging 12 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Rondo was also named a second-team <a title=\"Parade All-America Boys Basketball Team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Parade_All-America_Boys_Basketball_Team\"><i>Parade<\/i> All-American<\/a>. He ended his career as Oak Hill Academy&#8217;s all-time assists leader in a single season with 494 assists, surpassing McInnis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rondo committed to <a title=\"University of Kentucky\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Kentucky\">Kentucky<\/a> over hometown <a title=\"University of Louisville\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Louisville\">Louisville<\/a>. Rondo, along with <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"McDonald's All-American\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McDonald%27s_All-American\">All-Americans<\/a> <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Joe Crawford (basketball, born 1986)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joe_Crawford_(basketball,_born_1986)\">Joe Crawford<\/a> and <a title=\"Randolph Morris\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Randolph_Morris\">Randolph Morris<\/a>, gave coach <a title=\"Tubby Smith\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tubby_Smith\">Tubby Smith<\/a> and Kentucky the top-rated recruiting class for 2004 according to <a title=\"Rivals.com\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rivals.com\">Rivals.com<\/a>. Rondo led Kentucky to several wins including victories against the <a title=\"University of Louisville\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Louisville\">Louisville<\/a>, <a title=\"University of South Carolina\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_South_Carolina\">South Carolina<\/a> and <a title=\"University of Central Florida\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Central_Florida\">Central Florida<\/a>, but Kentucky failed to advance to the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Final Four\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Final_Four\">Final Four<\/a> of the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"NCAA Men's Basketball Championship\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NCAA_Men%27s_Basketball_Championship\">NCAA Tournament<\/a> in either Rondo&#8217;s freshman or sophomore seasons. He was named to the <a title=\"Southeastern Conference\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Southeastern_Conference\">SEC<\/a> All-Freshmen Team. He set a <a title=\"Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kentucky_Wildcats_men%27s_basketball\">Kentucky<\/a> record for most steals in single-season, with a total of 87 steals in his freshman year and made at least one steal in every game. He finished his freshman year at Kentucky averaging 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.6 steals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In his <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Sophomore year\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sophomore_year\">sophomore<\/a> year he had a career high 12 assists against <a title=\"University of Mississippi\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Mississippi\">Ole Miss<\/a>, despite playing just 23 minutes, and 25 points against <a title=\"Louisville Cardinals\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisville_Cardinals\">Louisville<\/a>. Rondo also set another <a title=\"Kentucky Wildcats\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kentucky_Wildcats\">Kentucky Wildcats<\/a> record for most rebounds in a game by a guard, with 19 rebounds in an early season loss to <a title=\"University of Iowa\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Iowa\">Iowa<\/a>. He was not known for being a shooter, however, going 18\u201366 from three with a 57.1% FT average. He averaged 11.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game in his sophomore year. Rondo was also named to the 2005 USA Men&#8217;s Under-21 World Championship Team, which traveled to <a title=\"Argentina\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Argentina\">Argentina<\/a> for the <a title=\"FIBA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/FIBA\">FIBA<\/a> World Championships. He averaged 11.0 ppg and 4.5 apg in the eight-game tournament, garnering much attention from NBA scouts. The USA U-21 team won a gold medal at the Global Games held in <a title=\"Texas\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Texas\">Texas<\/a> in late July.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12107\" src=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Rajon-Rondo-rajon-rondo-18267177-1024-768-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Rajon-Rondo-rajon-rondo-18267177-1024-768\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Rajon-Rondo-rajon-rondo-18267177-1024-768-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Rajon-Rondo-rajon-rondo-18267177-1024-768-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/myboysay.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Rajon-Rondo-rajon-rondo-18267177-1024-768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Following the 2005\u201306 NCAA season, Rondo announced he would forgo his final two seasons at Kentucky and enter the NBA draft. Rondo was drafted 21st overall by the <a title=\"Phoenix Suns\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Phoenix_Suns\">Phoenix Suns<\/a> in the <a title=\"2006 NBA draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006_NBA_draft\">2006 NBA draft<\/a>. Phoenix then traded him to the <a title=\"Boston Celtics\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boston_Celtics\">Boston Celtics<\/a> along with <a title=\"Brian Grant\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brian_Grant\">Brian Grant<\/a> for the <a title=\"Cleveland Cavaliers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cleveland_Cavaliers\">Cleveland Cavaliers<\/a>&#8216; first-round draft pick in the <a title=\"2007 NBA draft\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2007_NBA_draft\">2007 NBA draft<\/a> and cash considerations. \u00a0He was the first <a title=\"Point guard\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Point_guard\">point guard<\/a> to be chosen in the draft. In another draft-day deal, the Celtics acquired <a title=\"Sebastian Telfair\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sebastian_Telfair\">Sebastian Telfair<\/a> from the <a title=\"Portland Trail Blazers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Portland_Trail_Blazers\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a>, finally uniting the backcourt <a title=\"Rick Pitino\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rick_Pitino\">Rick Pitino<\/a> had envisioned at Louisville. He was signed by the Boston Celtics on July 4, 2006.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>During <a title=\"2006\u201307 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2006%E2%80%9307_NBA_season\">his rookie season<\/a> in the NBA, Rondo played a supporting role and would split time with <a title=\"Sebastian Telfair\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sebastian_Telfair\">Sebastian Telfair<\/a> and <a title=\"Delonte West\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Delonte_West\">Delonte West<\/a>. Rondo only started in 25 games that season due to his initial backup role to Telfair. He made his NBA regular season debut on November 1, 2006, in a home loss against the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"New Orleans Hornets\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Orleans_Hornets\">New Orleans Hornets<\/a>. \u00a0In his rookie season, he lacked on his jump shot which resulted in him <a title=\"Slasher (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Slasher_(basketball)\">slashing<\/a> to the basket for a teardrop or layup. While coming off the bench, he managed to score a career-high 23 points against the Toronto Raptors, \u00a0and record his first career <a title=\"Double (basketball)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Double_(basketball)\">double-double<\/a> in a road losing effort against the <a title=\"Washington Wizards\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington_Wizards\">Washington Wizards<\/a>. \u00a0In his first career start, he matched his career-high against the <a title=\"Los Angeles Clippers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Los_Angeles_Clippers\">Los Angeles Clippers<\/a>, though the line-ups were constantly being shuffled between Telfair and Rondo at the point guard. \u00a0After officially becoming a starter, he began to receive more playing time (career-high forty-seven minutes of playing time) and show improvement (career-high fourteen rebounds against the <a title=\"San Antonio Spurs\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Antonio_Spurs\">San Antonio Spurs<\/a>, and a career-high seven steals against the <a title=\"Indiana Pacers\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indiana_Pacers\">Indiana Pacers<\/a>). \u00a0As the mid-season approached, his numbers began to increase, \u00a0which earned him an <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"NBA All-Rookie Second Team\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NBA_All-Rookie_Second_Team\">NBA All-Rookie Second Team<\/a> selection. \u00a0He finished the season with an average of 6.4 ppg and 3.8 apg, \u00a0ranking in the top ten in the NBA in steals (128) \u00a0and also ranking in the top ten among rookies in several other categories, including first in steals, second in assists and sixth in minutes. \u00a0In the end, however, the Celtics finished the season with a 24\u201358 win-loss record and failed to qualify for <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"2007 NBA Playoffs\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2007_NBA_Playoffs\">the playoffs<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After Telfair and West were traded during the offseason of the <a title=\"2007\u201308 NBA season\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2007%E2%80%9308_NBA_season\">2007\u201308 season<\/a>, Rondo secured a spot in the <a title=\"Starting lineup\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Starting_lineup\">starting lineup<\/a>, starting in every game. Surrounded by <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"All-Stars\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All-Stars\">All-Stars<\/a> <a title=\"Kevin Garnett\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kevin_Garnett\">Kevin Garnett<\/a>, <a title=\"Paul Pierce\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Pierce\">Paul Pierce<\/a> and <a title=\"Ray Allen\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ray_Allen\">Ray Allen<\/a>, he quickly became a steady, consistent player. \u00a0In his 77 games played, he averaged 10.6 points per game (ppg), 5.1 assists per game (apg) and 4.2 rebounds per game (rpg). His role as a playmaker reflected in him leading the team in assists and steals. Following the All-Star weekend, Rondo recorded a career-high 16 assists in a home victory against the Charlotte Bobcats.
