Charlotte Dujardin OBE<\/a> (born 13 July 1985) is an elite British dressage<\/a> rider. Riding Valegro<\/a>, Dujardin currently holds the complete set of the available individual elite dressage titles; the individual Olympic freestyle, World freestyle and Grand Prix Special, and European freestyle and Grand Prix Special titles. Dujardin is the first, and to date only, rider to hold this complete set of titles at the same time.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition, she forms part of the current Great Britain team for Team Dressage; as such she is also the current Olympic, and a former European, Team Dressage champion.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born in Enfield<\/a>, Dujardin was brought up in Leighton Buzzard<\/a>, Bedfordshire<\/a> where she attended Vandyke Upper School. \u00a0She started riding as a two-year old, returning her elder sisters’ horses from the show jumping<\/a> ring to the horse box<\/a>. Aged three, she achieved second place at her first Pony Club<\/a> show jumping competition outing. To finance their hobby, their mother Jane Dujardin bought and sold ponies for her daughters to ride to enable them to continue riding.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leaving school aged 16, \u00a0Dujardin won the Horse of the Year Show<\/a> competition four times and was a winner at Hickstead<\/a> on three occasions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After encouragement from her trainer, Debbie Thomas, \u00a0Dujardin took up dressage<\/a> with a horse bought from her grandmother’s inheritance. \u00a0In February 2007, after seeking employment with Carl Hester<\/a>, \u00a0he gave her some coaching and spotting her talent he offered her a job as a groom at his yard in Newent<\/a>, Gloucestershire<\/a>, where she has since remained. Dujardin’s owned-horse is Fernandez<\/i>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2011, Dujardin was asked to develop the novice Dutch Warmblood<\/a> gelding<\/a> Valegro<\/a><\/i> by Hester and co-owner Roly Luar\u00a0with the intention of that horse being ridden by Hester. \u00a0However, after competing in their first dressage Grand Prix<\/a> event in 2011, \u00a0the combination became part of the successful team which won gold in a European Dressage Championship<\/a> event at Rotterdam<\/a>. The pair then won the FEI World Cup<\/a> Grand Prix<\/i> at London Olympia<\/a> in 2011, setting a new World Record for the Olympic Grand Prix<\/i> special discipline point-scoring at 88.022%, in April 2012. \u00a0In December 2012 Dujardin, again riding Valegro, won the 2012 World Cup freestyle event<\/a> held at Olympia<\/a> with a score of 87.875%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dujardin and Valegro<\/i> were selected to represent Great Britain<\/a> at the 2012 Summer Olympics<\/a>, \u00a0and in the first round the team set a new Olympic Record of 83.784%. On 7 August 2012 the pair were members of the team which won the gold medal in the team dressage<\/a> event. Two days later, in a routine accompanied by music which included Land of Hope and Glory<\/a>, The Great Escape<\/a><\/i> and the chimes of Big Ben<\/a>; \u00a0the pair won the gold medal in the individual dressage<\/a> event with a score of 90.089%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire<\/a> (OBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to equestrianism.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
